  1. That's what I was hoping for. They already have snow programmed in but as I said above, I'm not a programmer so I didn't know if it would work as easily as I hoped. LadyWYT brought up forest floor blocks being the base for the leaf layers and I don't know if that would make it easier or harder. Your method seems like it would work better around player planted trees while LadyWYT's method might be easier on the game. I'm not sure. Or they could just cheat like the other block game and generate layers below as the world is generated and have those layers change color with the seasons. Cherry blossom trees don't actually build up layers of leaves. Honestly though, your method sounds more in line with what Vintage Story would do though.
  2. My biggest concern was that the leaf layers would be deep enough for it to look weird along the edge. Deep leaf layers and then suddenly none sort of look. If the leaf layers were kept thin though it might actually end up looking better in the end. A lot of times leaves will pile up but there are still places where you can see through to the dirt. The more I think about it the more I like it. The trees planted by players would be out of place though and would honestly be a bit disappointing. Perhaps the players could place forest floor blocks wherever they wanted them to build up. It's an awkward work around but a passable one for those determined. I imagine it would be a quick way to fry a computer if it was programmed to check every single tree. I'm not a programmer so I can't honestly tell if there would be an easier work around.
  3. Maybe a leaf texture that piles up like snow? I agree it might cause performance issues though. You mentioned the option to toggle things on/off in the settings and I think that might be a workable compromise. The problem I see is how do you program the leaves to only pile up around trees? If the system has to process every trees' radius, then performance is going to tank. Snow at least is everywhere except climates that don't get snow. It would be a bit weird having giant piles of leaves show up in the middle of the plains or evergreen forests.
  4. Agreed, I just wish it was base game. The mods have caused some problems with my gardens when updates came out and the mods weren't aways updated promptly. I've had to just remove harvests from my cellar because its unusable for rl months. I just broke the question mark blocks in my garden to make sure I could grow enough for the coming winter. Sad to hear about the peppers but it makes sense now with context.
  5. I know that we already have grain crops so barley might not make sense to the Devs, but I would love to see more staple crops. My seraphim might not care about eating the same hearty red meat stew with cabbage every day, but it would drive me insane. I also enjoy gardening in real life and all of the balancing and rotating of crops and the soil is part of what makes it fun. Gardening makes me puzzle though my dietary needs for the year and how much of each plant I'll need to accomplish my goal. Some years the yield is enormous, and the family and I are searching for cars at church with unlocked doors so we can stuff it with veggies and fruits. Other years the yield is poor, and we need to supplement with hunting and groceries more. Then there's all the prep work and family salsa days. We'll have a dozen people working together to make enough for everyone. My point is that having a few more crops leaves room for people to scramble as a community and work together both in the harvesting and the processing. If we're always harvesting the same few crops and fruits, it becomes somewhat monotonous for those that play as farmers and cooks. Beans would bring the possibility of chili and soups. They would also require a step to shell them. Potatoes would probably compete with cabbage and the Devs wouldn't see much point in adding them since cabbage already fills that roll. They would however help diversify peoples harvesting. Potatoes have to be dug up. Tomatoes would add plants that have to be harvested over time. The bush would stay and continue to slowly produce fruit even after the initial harvest. Farmers would have to harvest multiple small batches until the plant was done. I simply think that adding a bit of variety adds replay value.
  6. This would be amazing. I would love to remake my Pangaea map. Or perhaps Laurasia and Gondwana so that there's still a reason to have boats.
  7. Being able to recruit villagers would certainly make things interesting. We wouldn't be able to recruit villagers from Nadiya but maybe there could be a person in the village that you could talk to. Maybe ask if they know anyone needing work? They'd ask if you have room for some strangers that wandered in after their village was attacked. Would be kind of interesting to add the child villager and see them running around for a couple years before they can fill a position in your new village.
  8. Could also add linseed oil to the wood dyes. Linseed and flax are from the same plant. Mind you, the plant is grown with different intentions for each. I'm not sure if the plant is exactly the same. Think Punnett square logic? Or it might just be a difference in one gets boiled and the other doesn't. I need a How Its Made episode. Lol. Linseed oil has been used for thousands of years, and flax is already in the game.
  9. I think it would be cool to have nut producing trees grow nuts similar to the fruit trees. I'm not sure how they would go about it as you don't typically harvest them directly from the tree. Maybe the walnut tree could have a season where it randomly drops walnuts, and you have to pick them up? I'm not a programmer so go easy on me, but there could be walnuts on the ground (similar to picking up sticks and stones off the ground) that you have to hunt for. Growing up, we had a walnut tree that dropped hundreds of them. We had to pull the hulls off of them to get to the shell. Grandma would take the hulls and soak them in water to make dye for her reed baskets. The dye was pretty. The dye ranged from a pale yellowish green to a medium dusty green depending on how strong the solution was. Putting walnut hulls in barrels to make dye is fairly realistic.
  10. I've got several bucks cornered in my barn and they still haven't shed their antlers. It's April 8th. Snow is still on the ground though and it just keeps snowing. 3520 110 -755. Not sure if my area makes a difference.
  11. Chickens are omnivores. I grew up with chickens and I've watched them chase down and eat mice. The hens will even fight over it. I've seen them eat small snakes as well. I promise you, they dont mind eating meat.
