    Villages

Even in worlds with live villages, there should be dead villages like you mentioned above. These would be more complete than the ones we have now.

    Villages

I agree. Everything that you mentioned, would make villages feel much more lifelike.
  3. I totally agree with point number one. The world feels very empty. That is one of the main reasons I don't play a lot more. If there was more reward for exploring I would probably play more.

    Adventure locations

It would be cool to see areas like these added to the game.
  5. This sounds like it could be great. I am dying to hear the rest.

    Suggestions

This a compilation of major suggestions that would vastly improve the game in my opinion. By major, I mean things that would likely take their own update. I am leaving out any small tweaks and features that I would like to see added. I plan to give in depth posts on each of these but for now I am just giving short descriptions. Additionally, I realize that many of these are probably planned by the developers. I will be borrowing from others who have made great suggestions. (If you don't won't me to use your suggestions, just let me know). Anyway, let us begin. Transportation More transportation methods is something that would really help the game grow. It would make exploration much more achievable and less of a challenge. I think that horses, mules, minecarts, and boats should all be added. But I also like the idea of oxen, carts, and wagons like Aiden McPherson mentioned. In addition, climate specific transportation would be cool, camels could be used in deserts and sled dogs could be used in the artic. Combat The combat system could definitely use a overhaul. I really can't say it better than Erik has. I will attach his combat suggestion file and here is a link to his latest combat suggestion.(again, if you would not like me to use this, Erik, just let me know) Villages Villages would add some life to the game. Something like a simpler version of the MC Millenaire would be really cool. At least make the player be able to interact with the villagers in more than just trading. There should be some type of reputation points that players can gain or lose. I would also suggest that the villagers interact with one another and be independent of the player. Weapons This goes hand in hand with combat but I think it deserves its own section. I don't think many more types of weapons should be added, although I would like to see flintlock weapons like lambda65 suggested, if done in moderation. I think there should be subtypes of current weapons. Using the sword as an example, there could be a katana, a short sword, a claymore, and many more. The same thing also applies to other weapons. This would be cool to see applied to bows, with longer bows, more composite bows, and cross bows. There would be tradeoffs with draw speed, distance, and damage. Additionally, shields should be added. Finally, players should be able to create spears all the way up to the iron age, or steel age whenever that comes out. Water Oceans and rivers would be great. They could be used as a form of transportation. They would also really add to the atmosphere of the game, which feels a little weird right now without major bodies of water. Underwater ruins and and coral reefs would also be cool. Additionally, dynamic water would be amazing, but I also realize that it would be difficult to add. Structures While the structures currently in the game aren't horrible, they can mostly be explored in less than a minute. Dungeons which take longer to explore and are more dangerous would be a nice addition. They should be dangerous enough that a player would have to get more than just stone age tools to survive them, unless they get lucky. They could be above ground or below ground. I think they should consist of multiple parts and be more intact. Ruined castles, abandoned mines, and old temples are all examples of what I mean. Exploring these dungeons would be something that takes more time and preparation. In return for exploring these more dangerous structures, the loot should be better. To clarify, I am not saying that the old structures should be removed, there should just be some rarer but more elaborate structures too. Additionally, mobs that are specific to structures would help make structures more terrifying and special. There are many SCP monster that would make structure so spooky. Something like SCP-173 would be terrifying to find in structures. Caves More underground biomes and mobs would really help the game. This might sacrifice some realism, but it would still be worth it. For underground biomes, there is a lot that could be added. Underwater caves would be really cool and would tie into the water suggestions. Under ground lakes would also be nice. There should certainly be lush biomes underground, but these should only be near the entrance where light can reach. In general, caves should be more than just tunnels. There should be large rooms inside caverns. There should also be large entrances that narrow down to lead to thinner tunnels. Just google amazing caves to get see what I mean. As for cave mobs, there are not a lot of real life animals that live in caves that could be implemented into the game. Bats are about it. Adding some made up creatures might be the only option. Some Lovecraftian or SCP monsters would make caves more terrifying. Something like Lovecraft's Ghasts are one example that would fit perfectly into caves. Mobs There are a lot of mobs that could possibly be added. I think there they fall under 3 types, ambient, realistic, and enemies. Ambient mobs are mobs that are really just there to add life to the game and don't have any use. There really aren't any of these in Vintage story, as almost everything has a use. Bugs are the only mob that could be added that falls under this category. Realistic mobs are mobs that exist in real life. There are practically endless possible mobs of this type. Some that I think should be a priority are dogs, birds, fish, and those mentioned in transportation. Enemies are mods like drifters. They only exist to harm you. If villages are added, these could be bandits or raiders. Again, Lovecraft and SCP offer a lot of good inspiration for monsters. I have already mentioned some above, but there are many more. I also think rarer but more dangerous mobs with great drops would be cool. Something like Ithaqua or SCP-173 like I mentioned above are great starting points. This is all I have for now. Let me now your thoughts in the comments. If you have any good suggestions, I will add them to this list. I do plan to write separate posts for each of these that go into more detail. Combat.pdf

    Villages

I like the idea of building a village. But I think you should find a small town (maybe 2-4 buildings) and build off of that and upgrade the village. And in return the villagers will help you.
  8. I think this a cool idea. Also, this might belong in suggestions.
  9. I think anything more than simple guns would be a little too much. I think more advanced guns would feel out of place in vintage story. I also think they could make PvE too easy. I think this would be a great idea, maybe beside the shotgun. the rifle and pistol would keep melee combat alive, because if they miss it takes some time to reload and you could charge them. I think a shotgun would make melee combat obsolete, with its quick reload, wide range, and massive damage. (Side note, shotguns don't really do a lot of damage if they are shooting bird shot. They do a lot of damage when they are shooting a slug, which gives them just a wide range as any other gun.) I am not saying that getting rid of melee combat would be bad, I am just saying that the cost should be considered. Also, bayonets should be a thing.
  10. I know the developers plan on adding villages to the game eventually, but I get the feeling it will be a while, with more important things taking first priority. I also realize that villages might be to complex to mod. I would try to do this myself, but I have absolutely no idea how to mod and I am very busy with school. I think something like a slightly less complex millenaire would be really cool. Let me know if you would be interested in coding this, I would like to give input and discuss it. If no one is interested, if someone could give me some pointers on learning how to code something like this, that would be great too.

    Villages

Yeah, I agree with the underground settlements. That would make sense with what I have heard about the lore. I don't think the going back in time thing would be a great idea. It seems like it would be hard to implement.
  12. Some weapons shouldn't be able to perform every type of attack. For example, Axes should be able to be used in a swing attack or a overhead attack, but they shouldn't be used in a stabbing attack. That would make no sense. Maybe a stab could be replaced by something else for the axe. Same thing with the spear. It makes no sense to be able to swing it or overhead attack with it ( although, maybe some type of overhead stab might make sense if done right).

    Villages

I think you should be able to loot a village if you conquer it. This could mean killing all the villagers or maybe just the guards. This would cost you though. It would take away trading in that village. You could also make it so that if you kill a villager, you have a worse reputation with villagers. This would bring you worse trades and eventually cause guards to attack you. So, you could loot a village, but it will cost you.

    Villages

Villages would add a lot to VS. They give players more reasons to explore. They also make the game feel less lonely and more lively. When adding villages to VS, don't make the same mistakes that MC did. Don't make them dull. Villages should add life to the game. Have them interact with each other and do jobs. Additionally, unlike in MC, don't make them have a weird currency. Here is what I think the village in VS should be like. I will divide this into two parts. Part 's ideas are more realistic and less difficult to implement while part 2 is more far fetched. Before I begin, I am no programmer so I don't know how hard any of this would be to implement. Part 1. Villages should, obviously, have different professions and actually go about and complete them. Some example professions are: blacksmith, farmer, tanner, etc. I think there should also be guards and soldiers. These would make the village seem less dependent on you, which makes sense because you weren't always there to defend the village. Additionally, Villagers should do more than just their jobs and sleep. Even villagers need some fun. Villages should also be compact and inside walls. This would make sense, because after the great disaster event people would want to be inside walls and this would cause them to squeeze together. Additionally, the compactness would make the village feel like 1 big structure which is a cool feeling. Compactness also makes it easier to add atmosphere to a village. Here are some MC custom villages that are similar to what I am thinking. I will show videos at the end for what type of village I am talking about. I also think that the towns should not seem to exist only for the player. They should seem to exist for themselves. Finally, the villagers should be the same species as the player. Part 2. Villages should have some sort of society with interacting villages that trade, battle and form allies. Some examples of what I am thinking are MC mods Millenaire and Improved Villagers. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions. I would love for you guys to discuss this and add your own ideas.
  15. I completely agree with everything you said, but especially villages and cities. Right now the game feels very lonely and there isn't much reason for me to travel much. Villages would give me more reason to explore.
  16. 1. NPC villages and communities 2. Randomly generated structures 3. Cool terrain
  17. I believe that this combat system would drastically enhance the game and is an awesome idea. I also believe that the spear should be able to be made with higher tier materials, because this system would make a spear a unique weapon, as you said. In addition, in real life spears have been used up until modern times and were not only used by primitive people.

    roadmap list

This is just a minor suggestion. You should constantly update the roadmap so that it shows how far along you are. In other words, take everything off the roadmap that is already completed. This should continue to be done consistently. I know you could reason out what is already completed, but it would just be simpler for new players or people who are interested.
  19. I am too late. But anyway, here are my picks. 1. Villages, Trading, Quests, Story, other kinds of NPC Interactions. One of the only good things about MC was when you would be exploring and see a village in the distance (even though those villages always turned out to be sooo dull). Villages would be nice, friendly locations for players to come across. Don't make the villages solely about trading though. I understand you would have to simple, but eventually you could work up to more advanced villages. Possibly something like the Millenaire MC mod. 2. Farming, Seasons, Weather, Animal Husbandry. I believe this would add a lot of depth to the game. 3. Better Combat (better combat immersion, armor, stronger enemies). I feel like combat needs to be updated in general, but specifically stronger enemies. You could tie this into the village update by creating bandits or barbarians. These would be great because they could use the same weapons as players and could have some sort of base.
  20. Also, I feel that making villagers be able to switch professions would be kind of cheap. You could have a population of 99% farmers in a time of peace and then war comes and you just switch your villagers professions so that there would be 99% soldiers. This seems to defeat the purpose of different professions, as they would all be very fluid. So you could do two things: 1. You could make it so that you can not switch the villagers profession, or 2. You could make some sort of system so that the longer a villager spends as a certain profession the more efficient he would be at that profession. So, when a villager switches professions, they take time to become efficient at their new profession. For example, if you switched a farmer to a soldier the new soldier could do less damage than a soldier who has spent more time as a soldier. This means that you could still turn your 99% farmer population into a large army, it would just be an inexperienced army. This mirrors how lords in the middle ages would make their farmers join the army alongside more experienced soldiers. (I realize this would be more difficult to code.) I also think it would be cool if there were different types of soldiers, like archers, spearmen, and swordsmen. P.S. I love the idea of tax collectors.
  21. It would be nice if you could find some already existing small villages. Villages would be small and consist, maybe only around 5-10 farmers and 1-2 soldiers. You could then gain control of these pre-existing villages and grow them. Even if these pre-existing villages are not added, and only the stuff above, it would still be an awesome improvement to the game. It would be better if there were more villager trades, specifically a blacksmith, miller, and carpenter/lumberjack. Although medieval villages were 90% farmers, they also regularly had one blacksmith and sometimes a butcher, miller, or carpenter/lumberjack along with some soldiers.
