1.22.0-pre.1 - Fishing, Mechanisms, Metalworking and More!
CastIronFabric replied to Tyron's topic in News
when it comes to berry bushes I am not going to form a full opinion until I get a full experience of the overall food balance. I normally resort to berries in my first few months and perhaps fishing will balance it now? I would have to play the full update to get a 'feel' for the overall balance. Just like in the medical science world, sometimes reductionism is a fault instead of a benefit to full understanding. -
Temporal storms are a bad implementation of a good idea.
CastIronFabric replied to Tabulius's topic in Discussion
this... even if they 'improved' the experience I most likely would just leave it off. To those who say 'your playing the wrong game then', If someone made a crafting/building depth of this level and depth including the geographic world without the monsters, yes I would play that game. In fact, to some degree I did for years, Wurm. -

I personally do not think Temporal Storms are a good idea. If this game was hyper focused on being a tower defense game like 7 days to die perhaps but otherwise I think its not a good idea at all. -

I agree with the overall assessment here, I am not a fan of multiple things regarding the restrictions on water wheel. In case others have not mentioned it, another issue is that downflow of the fast water stream will immediately turn to regular flow water. This means: 1. you can only build one per naturally found rapids. 2. player can not make their own rapids. 3. iron is needed. This is an area, that I will use creative and create rapids myself. As a side note, I also use creative to place traders but only after I build them a trading stall, I am not a fan of the trader system either. -
doing this with Better Ruins mods is extremely satisfying. I have one file in which before I even started my base I came into a small ruined village, restored it as my base. very satisfying. I might go back to that file and finish it, its just that its two offical updates behind.

How do I expand my crafting abilities in this game?
CastIronFabric replied to gluemchen's topic in Discussion
I am unclear how one could be playing the game and not know that how the progression works. I am not saying that as a criticism, I just do not understand how that could work. To explain more, its not like we are talking about a specific aspect of the game, I mean we are talking about the overall game architecture. -

can I offer some advice? Given your questions I think its safe to assume you have not yet played the game. I would suggest playing the game for a good amount of time and see how the flow feels first before investing too much time in ideas of how to change it. Its like how people were complaining about the changes in spear damage for the new release candidate update without having played it to see how the entire system feels together and as it turns out at least with copper spears on regular hunting the amount of hits required was EXACTLY the same -
The only time I ever go into 3rd person in any game at all is when traveling by horse, car, boat etc. In fact, if a game only has a 3rd person over the shoulder view its a hard no on purchase regardless of how good the game is. Once I learn that about a game, I am 100% done looking into it. I do not know how people can tolerate that kind of view it is a HUGE immersion killer for me Although I have played a few of the GTA games, that was decades ago, I didnt last long and I do not like those games.

Townsends is a fantastic channel. I like Expanded Foods mod I just wish it was working for these later versions of the game -
The only thing that has worked well for me is running until I see it on the surface/mountains. Same for rock types for lime. In my pre release game I am playing now I ran 20,000 blocks before finding limestone. Now granted I ran straight south for other reasons as well but regardless of which direction it can take a long time to find a specific rock type.

Let me make sure I understand you are saying that Tyron has explicitly stated that they want drifters to appear from the portal as a new change Can you please give me the source of that, thank you. Please understand if your response is highly obfuscated I will likely just move on
-
sorry you lost me so I will put it another way, using your logic 1. If what the developers decides to do is the final say and people should not dispute it then spear changes are fine, per your own logic. 2. drifters coming out of portals is not even something the developers have weighed in on, so per your logic, its value is undetermined until they do so its not worth talking about. This has nothing to do with me, so I am confused there.
-
keep in mind, the feature in question that started this entire conversation does not even exist. It was an idea suggested by players and not weighed in on at all from the developers. So we already have a logic flaw in the argument of 'if the developer wants it so it shall be' because the developer has not weighed in on this idea at all, likely does not even know it exists.
-
so I was originally correct, ok my misunderstanding. your position is that feature in the game as it is has been the developers decision on how the game should be, therefore its pointless to disagree with such decisions. As such criticism of the game design from anyone (including yourself) is really unwarranted. fair enough, got it However, what does it mean if you are making suggestions to a feature that does not exist and has not been created yet and the developers have not weighed in on? You cant really pull the 'this is how the devs decided to do it' card if you are talking about drifters coming out of a portal, that would not make sense becasue the feature does not exist. Additionally, even if its a feature that does not exist you cant really weigh in on it because its value is not determined by you but rather determined by the developers and if they developers have not weight in on it, then you logically have no position to make an opinon on it.
-
here is where you said if you 'if not there are options'. what does that mean exactly? are you saying that if you do not agree with the vision of the devs that you think your suggestions to change it is valid? despite saying the devs decisions are basically immutable? by 'if not there are options' do you mean if its not the vision of the developers? if so, how do you know which features they have created are in their vision or not without asking them?

From my understanding flowing water for waterwheels can not be captured in a bucket. I am not sure if changes to regular or just cant. Now, one could make a river from the flowing water to your location, maybe that is the intent, that could be intresting -
I am going to try and backpaddle my way out of this conversation. I do not feel like its built on a foundation that I could reasonably work with
-
you do it all the time. If its a feature you like and someone challenges you on it you eventually resort to 'this is the way the developer intends for it to be and that is how it should be because that is how they intend it to be'. Now how SPECIFICALLY you know what the developer intends or not is another subject but yes you do that rather often.

1.22.0-pre.1 - Fishing, Mechanisms, Metalworking and More!
CastIronFabric replied to Tyron's topic in News
no. I do not approve of waterwheels be restricted this way for reasons I think should be self evident and my opinon on that is immutable -
I want to make sure I completely understand your position on this before I respond. You are stating that if you go into a cave to do some prospecting and you place dirt blocks around to protect yourself from getting attacked by difters you consider that 'abusing game mechanics' do I have the correct?
-
so here is the logic 1. if you agree with the developers vision then nobody else should question those decisions because the its how the developer has decided to make the game 2. if you do not agree with the developer vision on a feature then you can dispute it. and to be clear when I say you I mean specifically you not the abstract 'you' do I have that right?
-
that even gets worse not only do you want to force people to play as the developer dictates, you do not even care about their opinion on the matter. that should make you pause. But with your stance you are basically taking the position that any and all suggestions, ideas or change requests need to stop because it would contradict the developers intention.

I do not agree with this game design specifically for this game. 1. I do not want to be restricted by where I can build, yes I understand that will always be that but lets not go out of our way to make even more restrictions. 2. the chances that you are going to be able to find a location that is reasonable enough for your village build AND near rapid waters is fairly low. -
There are moments that people do not notice when they should be giving themselves pause. Suggesting others should play a game the way a developer intended would be one of those times.
