Jowi started following I miss some of the old hair colours... and tree seed droprates are way too low

ive been seeing this discussion on reddit recently and its been fanning my own frustrations again: why the hell do trees drop less seed when cut? why do you need to manually punch each leaf? theyre seeds, theyre already hanging on the tree! it falling over wouldnt destroy them! with the sticks i could kind of see it, them breaking off in the process, but seeds? do they just evaporade? those acorns surely stay intact from a little fall, how do you think they plant themselves in nature? and then, the droprates themselves. why are trees dropping but a handful of seeds, most of the time none? and dont you dare say Balance! you know damn well thats bullshit. in real life trees give hundreds if not thousands of seeds, here its two, maybe three. sure VS trees are a little smaller, and the seeds drop yearround instaed of only at a certain time of year (actually why not ty that into the mechanic?). but not being able to keep a forest above the replacing level is ludicrous. for some trees is objectively impossible. case in point, crimson maple. how many times have i seen a couple of them in a forest finally afetr a long walk, punch EVERY SINGLE LEAVE PER HAND, only to get NOTHING! and dont come with "we try to encourage exploration", just admit you made a mistake. the only sustainable way of keeping certain trees is buying them from a trader, which is boring nonsense and walnuts, WALNUTS! why are they even edible? who ever said: "you know, i chopped down a whole tree after punching all the leaves i could reach before hand, building an ugly dirtpillar in the process, and all i got where a handful of seeds, how about i eat some of them"- nobody, nobody ever did that. you know how cool it would be to actually have walnuts as a viable food source? but having to pillar up and destroy them all by hand to get anything (i got literally not a single seed from a giant tree by felling it) is simply too much work for too little food. yeah sure its protein, but the fact that you cant cook with them should cancel it out! Have you ever seen a real walnut tree? have you ever had to pick up all the walnuts in autumn? do you know how much that is? or acorns, how cool would it be to use acorns as pig feed, but again, no, too valuable and to get to the leaves in the first place needs ugly and weird nerdpoling up the tree to get every last leaf, which surely cant be thr intended way of playing? right? RiGHT? you get my frustration, tree seed droprate beeing tied to hand vs felling makes no sense, and the amount of seeds you get is absurdly low, to the popint of beeing unsustainable within one generation so here some of my ideas how to fix it: 1. ONE droprate, regardless of how the eaves are destroyed. shears are still useful for clearing, but handpunching doesnt offer advantage, rather felling gets the same as hand before 2. higher droprate, like COME OOOONE, nobody ever propagated rare trees successfully, and having to travel far and wide, strip the beautiful landscape of its special trees, only to get literally nothing in return most of the time just isnt good gamedesign, doesnt encourage exploration, isnt balanced, and is just plain frustrating and makes no sense (and since you can buy them form traders anyway..., i mean im thankful for that, at least this way its somewhat renewable) and maybe, but a bit weird: 3.a single special leaf "crown" block in every tree, that is guaranteed to drop one seed, in addition to the other leaves, so there is at least no loss 4. seed droprates beeing tied to the seasons, keeping the old low droprate most of teh year, but having a crazy higher one for their individual month, maybe even so the player has to keep track of when its most advantageous to chop down each type of tree to maximise seedharvest 5. if upping the seed droprate, maybe in exchange introduce a possibility of failure when planting, similar to fruit trees, or the need of watering (if not by rain), or just increase the growtime (wasnt it on default 2x in the past at some point? recently its been default 1x, which i like, and can be changed individuliy of course) 6.(i mean would there be a way to introduce a system of them dropping seeds automatically wihtout cutting the tree?, i mean not like in dynamic item form, but like either pregenerated lying on the gorund, or all at once during a certain season, but again in solid item form, maybe like snow, or idk, hitting it with a hammer lol. but no, probably not easy or performance friendly) and yes, i know there are mods that up the drop rate, and yes, ive been using "useful shears", but mods cant always be the bandaid for everything if anything, anything at all, just unify the droprate, so i dont have to dirtpole up and punch every single leaf, so i can just chop it down, at least that, please

so i was testing some mods i installed in creative mode and i dont know what i did but now all inventory UI boxes, be it chest or firepit, are on the side of the screen instead of the center, like when you open additional chests after the first one, just that even the first one is to the side now i unchecked all mods and reloaded the game and still it persists im not crazy right? the first inventory you opened was in the center. i looked up some videos and yeah, center. (my character inventory is still in the center though, everything else not) i couldnt find any option regarding this and i dont know if i have to regenerate some configs again or whatever

It always seemd odd to me that there where armour made of pure gold and silver, some rather heavy and soft metals, like at that point you may as well make lead armor.. so i never even considered making them, because getting that much gold or silver is infinitely more difficult than the much better iron or even bronze... it does look amazing though, so amazing and so difficult to produce that one might only use it decorative/ceremonial...if only... so there i was, looking through some recipees after installing some mods when i saw the silver falx, "such a pretty weapon but such shitty material, what a shame" i thought, until i looked a the recipee and realized that it was only a decorative plate added to a steel falx... soooo my idea: how about converting gold and silver plate to a cosmetic variant of the steel plate armour too, thus considerably reducing the material cost and actually making these ones usable armour also gold/silver chain armor sure has that mythological status to it, but is still rather useless for its cost (if it wasnt obvious this is just me being mad that silver plate looks so amazing but is more difficult to produce than steel and less protective than bronze)

also just for clarification (i figured out how quoting works) about the "drop farmland" mod: i know the concern regarding balance, but i dont care for the farmland itself. i only use it because i want the dirt back, since its a, as far as i know, nonreneuable ressource. and i know "near infinitve world, more than you could ever need" but its about the principle if there was a cheap crafting recipe for low fertility soil i would be a happy man (like terra petra but cheaper)

well first of all, for small tweaks and such, having to rely on mods for things that should and will most likely be vanilla someday (like getting metal bits back from smithing/ propagating most plants/ getting farmland back) is of course okay, especially for a game in development, but are still seen as a postponed neccessity (does these words make sense, english isnt my first language), (like how after every big rimworld update you can disable several qol mods for example) there are reasons why the same things get suggested/requested so often, even if there are mods for them, because people generally (i assume) like things to work out of the box and be integrated into the game itself and just...work! with mods there is always the possibility that things wont work (which is the case for the whole game too of course, but with mods all the more) and they dont want to wait for them to update after every game update, or worse, get abandoned and of course, for bigger mods or divicive ones (like the thirst mod), mods staying mods is understandable, and i dont plan on pestering the devs to add every odd feature but it would still be nice for small things to be vanilla someday. yes modding is easy, but even so, there are many that either dont know or dont want to. of course if you are already on the forum or even if you somehow found and bought a niche game like this in the first place, one could imagine such users have a base understanding of how these things could work (unlike in minecraft, where it is more difficult to find and install mods, and the userbase is more comprised of children who wouldnt know either) of course i dont mean to go after the wishes of the developer, they had their reasons to disable some haircolours (even if they forgot to rename them) but perhaps they overcorrected and could have kept some, even of in a muted form (like the blues and greens, which, as i said, i actually like more now, but the same could have been done to purple and pink, the pink was actually in my opinion good already, but i guess not ( there is a different changed colour which one could believ to be faint pink, but i dont really see it as a replacement for the lost one (which all this is to say, i actually never used the pink one, but i enjoyed others wearing it and can imagine others wanting it back) and secondly...actually i dont know what you mean with that, like i know that the vanilla core is somehow optional in the modmanager, but why are you asking me what could be the alternative? i dont know?? im a mod consumer not producer, and i dont see how that would be releveant to ask me, since i didnt disagree on the general existance of mods nor could provide an educated answer!? sorry i guess? i dont know?

https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/9669 this one looks promising so far, only adding the old ones back, even planning to add the ones that where only subtly changed but i dont want to rely on mods for everything

a while back some of the more fantastical haircolours got exchanged for more normal browns for "canon" reasons, if i remember correctly... but i miss them. hell they even are still called their original name instead of the new one seraphs can already have green or blue skin and glow in the dark, so are blue-green and purple-pinkish hair really that lorebreaking? i know there are mods that bring them back, yet im still sad that they where removed in the first place (i mean pink and purple i kind of get, even though i liked them, but taking away my beloved winter green dream? yeah yeah, too vibrant and such, but still...at least i still have my queen blue and sea green) actually now that im researching this it looks like that besides the removed ones, other where slightly edited as well. not sure how to handle that without effectively doubling the hair colours (although would that be so bad?) i admit that some of the blues and greens being more muted actually looks better now (it used to take me way longer to create a character because one blue was too washed out and the other too vibrant, the current queen blue is perfect), but getting back a more muted purple and the same pink (wasnt that called grey or something? it was already quite muted in my opinion) in addition would be a compromise and by no means do i want you to get rid of the new ones (harvest gold is an absolute banger), just bring some of the old ones back in some way, maybe, or not, its your game afterall... ...and afterall there are still mods... but still... (also hot take, (at least from what i heard) but i like the instrument voices, not hair related, but i just wanted to mention that when i am already talking about character creation)

First of, i have a certain type of brainrot that gives me anxiety if anything in the (game)world truly disappears, which is why i dreading certain actions ingame and their (nonexisting)consequences. And keep in mind that my reasons may be stupid, but my requests are not (i hope) First example: berry bushes i like berry bushes to be in nature, because thats where they are supposed to be and because it allows me to forage while out and about. Thus i always am reserved to actually just take them from there and plonk them in my base, because that sullys my world in a way, robs it of nature (bear with me here). So i always only take one or two bushes form a large group and take all those who for example grow on sand near water or other places they wouldnt normally grow because the funky worldgenereation. Thus a way to propagate berrybushes, either by planting berries or taking cuttings, would be both appreciated and frankly realistic, i mean yes, if the player would be able to plant hundreds of bushes over their base would be overpowered at first, but it could be nerfed by reducing the sprouting succes rate or lenghening the sprout time like with fruit trees (plus its not like making a field of berries isnt realistic in... real life, you know, its a thing, i get that industrial sized fields would feel weird in a pseudo medival setting but at least allowing for small scale reproduction would be nice) Second example: reeds Cattails and other reeds: Again, being able to replant them is nice, plus there usually are many and close nearby so i never actually have to transplant them to a field for convienece, but still, they are a limited ressource, especially the fact that cou can cook and eat them, a horrifying idea that never came to my mind because it would be permanently removing a thing from my world, is weird considering that fact. thusly, either by small chance of seed drop or by giving, as the model would suggest, multiple roots that could be sepereatly replanted but needed time to mature, or by splitting a patch with a shovel receiving two smaller plant that needed growing again. just something Third example: farmland i get that picking up the dirt would mess with the nutrients, allowing for essentially cheating in a way, so maybe a way that picking it up again turns it into a competly nutrients poor version, just something that doesnt completely removes that block. i know that some recipees essentially can create more blocks, but thats rather late and in small amounts, so not satisfactory. again, just something so the block isnt just lost, its a source of long decisionmaking on my side as to where to put my farms because of the fact that i have to fill these plots with dirt from elsewhere should i change my mind later. fourth example: mushrooms mushrooms grow on predetermined places and can be harvested with knifes and will regrow, technically not a problem, but it would still be nice to be able to grow them yourself, by taking spores or shift right clicking on placed log or something. maybe it could just work on player placed logs and after each harvest the log would get more and more rotten and after th efinal harevst it breaks into rot pieces, thsu limiting the player in needing a steady supply and stopping them from just plastering mushrooms on the walls of their houses. maybe even allow for continued growsth and harvest in the large plant pots simply. (plus a way to create forest ground would be neat, but idk if thats already a thing perhaps, havent seen it regrow though) fith example: resin resin on the other hand is one of the most frustrating to get ressources, so either player planted pines could generate it too or allow us to create resin taps, you know those carved grooves on the log flowing into a small pot, like humans have done for millenia Lastly, and i know thats boring, but perhaps let traders sell the bushes and roots and stuff, like you can with other limited ressources already I Know that most of these things are unneccessary in a big world, as one player could realistically never use up any of these resscources, but it just pains me that i have to steal all plants in my vecinity, leaving nature looking bare, if i want them at my base, or have to travel somewhere far else and do the same to it. Most of these things are possible in real life, if introducing realism in a game about difficult realism harms the supposed balance of said difficulty, perhaps some thing should be rethought (sorry if thats all weird and personal, but basically:) TLDR: make certain things replenishable/ Propagatable
