It cannot be overstated that you should avoid bears. They-are-so-damn-lethal! -

I beleive I had a similar post/question about this around when I have 100 hrs in, you can see that post here: What I will say is this, now that I am closer to 400 hrs in, fighting is not just about "power", it's about tactics. On that point, you should: Use a shield Don't tel them hit you - run, jump, do a full halo Make sure you have enough space. -
I want to build the town I lived in for 6 years after leaving university, or at least a portion of it. But I want to do it in normal mode, not creative. Maybe when I retire lol.

How do I expand my crafting abilities in this game?
vinnland replied to gluemchen's topic in Discussion
There is has to be a line between realism and fun. Sure, it makes no sense that we contain knowledge of how to find iron ore. But you started by describing the game as a "post-apocalyptic world", which is also not real and makes no sense. It's not supposed to be real. -
Best Linux Distro for Vintage Story gaming (Nvidia RTX)

Interestingly, I have a windows with a 3070Ti. But I play VS on my Linux (internal graphics) for the same reason. But there is another solution to the problem of being forced windows stuff. I use windows 10 LTSC (there is also 11 LTSC). This version of windows has no AI, no windows store, no bloatware and is used mainly for servers. I use it for day to day. It's the only bearable version of windows I can handle. -
another pro tip, packed dirt is your friend.

I have two T480. One slackware, one debian 12. I play on debian 12 without issue. I know this isn't really an answer but because these laptops are so cheap, maybe consider getting a second one with debian and skip all this stuff.

In game settings, put realistic map colors on (i forgot the name), and on the mini map, clay is really easy to see.

I'm at the point where I have more hours in VS that factorio, and i have had factorio since it came out. As much as I don't want to sound like a fan boy... im going to 100% fanboy this and say that this game is a masterpiece. And they are not even finished. Ill prob buy more copies to support hte studio.

Over 300 in, and 100 hours into my 3rd world. I realise that, with or without mods, this game has peak replayability. I play 30 day months so a game lasts long.

I think i need to first learn how to make my hands NOT shake before I can do this... that or put on some goddam armor.
-
I literally say that when I see that green light.... "NOPES"... then run like hell. Never got to steel yet. But man I have so much iron which is nice.
-
Interesting, this is because of the jones parts? im not far enough to understand why they are useful yet.
-
Im trying to visualize this but cannot. So you nerd pole up, but spiders climb, so how do you protect your sides?
-
So, even with good gear, it takes 2-3 hits to kill 1 spider. And in a nest, somethings I have 7-8 run at me. Killing them is basically waiting for them to re spawn, and even if I rush the rests, it takes too long to break even one. And there are usually 4-6 nests. So how do ya'll deal with these incredibly creep nests? Also... is there a payoff for killing nests?

I gotta say, I play 30 day months and winter is brutal. For traveling long distances, I create huts every few hundred blocks with a fire and some wood. Then I can explore caves/prospect and find loot rooms.
-
So, Ive been playing this game for a while now. Every time I found iron, it was through cave exploring. One time I found two massive veins right next to each other. When I checked the prospecting reading for the veins I did fine, they were all "poor" or "very poor". Now, in my current game, I haven't found iron in caves, but I also have prospected lot's of the map and haven't seem iron higher than poor. Does more than poor exist or is it like the other smaller ores (like borax) that stay small?
-
In a sense, yes. but it depends on how you play. I like building mega bases. And so i need lots of flat land.
-
These images are so nice, i'm embarrassed to open my game lol.

I tried all of them. 50% of my games use VanillaPlus, 50% use Plains and Valleys. Plains and Valleys is great.

There is so much to learn about this game. Thanks @LadyWYT
