  1. Can you domesticate Gazelles?
  2. I love a lot of the ideas you have here, particularly the hot air balloon! Edit: This got me curious and I found this mod: https://mods.vintagestory.at/viescraft Haven’t tried it yet but definitely will be!
  3. Hey everybody! So I’m finding that my wild-caught animals remain aggressive towards me (it seems) indefinitely. No matter how much game time has passed, they always want to attack me. When you come across a wild ewe, they are not aggressive unless you attack them or a nearby ram, no matter how close I get to them. The same is true of sows. Having punched my sheep and pigs to get them into their pens, they are always aggressive towards me now. Is this intentional? Or is this a bug? I would think after so long they would go back to being neutral, especially since I’ve been feeding and breeding them. Any insight into this would be appreciated!
  4. Definitely more than 100…
  5. I’m having a similar problem where it says the sheep is milk-able, but am getting nothing in the bucket. It goes through the animation and sound effects, but no milk in the bucket.
  6. Hey there gang! So I have a wild captured ram and ewe. I’ve successfully bred this wild pair and the ewe has recently given birth. In her tooltip panel it says she can be milked but it will cause her to become aggressive. She’s penned in nicely and I can access her from a couple blocks above with my bucket. The problem I’m having is whenever I try to milk her, I get the animation and sound effects for milking, but am getting nothing in the bucket. Immediately after trying to milk her the tooltip says she’s too stressed to be milked, then about one second later it says she can be milked but will become aggressive again. This happens repeatedly no matter how many times I try. What’s the deal?
  7. I have heard that planting crops in and among the hares will feed them portions as well. I’m not 100% sure, I’ve not really played with it enough. With regular breeding, animals can mate up to 10 blocks away, even through fencing. You might try separating males and females and putting planted crops in with the female. I had these same questions some time ago before deciding it was better to just catch wild hares using the cages mod rather trying to actually breed them, but I may come back to it again later. I hope you find this helpful.
  8. As Saricane said, flax is really the way to go for feeding animals. It has a low nutritional content vs other grains such spelt or rye so it makes sense to use it for animal feed. If you are not opposed to mods, check out Xskills. This mod also must be paired with Xlib. This mod allows you to essentially “level up” in specific areas giving you distinct advantages for things like combat, crafting, farming, survivability, and much more. One of those advantages gives you a higher chance of collecting more seeds when harvesting crops. Check it out! 9. While hares cannot be domesticated, the wiki states that you can capture and breed them with the right conditions. https://wiki.vintagestory.at/index.php?title=Hare I would highly recommend the Animal Cages mod, it is one of my favorites! https://mods.vintagestory.at/animalcages
  10. 1) If you kill a trader, does it eventually respawn or is it gone forever? 2) If you attack a trader, will it always be hostile towards you? Let’s say you accidentally punch him and then you run away for a while… will the trader still attack you if you return later?
  11. I would also like to link this mod, which does have the potential to capture traders and move them to your village: https://mods.vintagestory.at/animalcages
  12. The trader NPCs are currently scattered across the land, each are alone and isolated with their caravan wagons… Until they meet YOU! Each trader will have a “contract” item for sale that you can purchase with gears. At your base, you must build a building or have a room that meets specific parameters. It would have to be of certain dimensions and/or built with the right materials and it would have to have specific items as part of the decor based on each type of trader. Once the area meets these requirements, you can place the contract item in that room and the trader will move in! Multiple traders of the same type can be put within the same room or building but the requirements would be greater to accommodate the larger population. This would allow you to essentially build a village with NPCs and facilitate better trading and commerce. It would be useful both single and multiplayer. Essentially what I’m suggesting is a system of collecting NPCs similar to that of the game Starbound. Alternatively, you could capture the traders and make them into slaves, similar to Conan Exiles.
  13. @Saricane Thanks for that info, appreciate it. My question still stands though on whether or not animals will breed through walls? I’ve yet to really delve into husbandry and want to design an appropriate enclosure beforehand.
  14. To illustrate what I mean, I’ve created a test world and taken some snapshots. I’ll continue testing and report back later.
  15. One more thought: could one not put the trough as part of the separating wall? Could the animals on both sides access the trough?
  16. I believe slabs do prevent spawns, so yes, that should help keep your areas safer. For cellars, only sunlight will affect spoilage. Artificial light is fine and won’t change spoilage rates.
  17. Given this behavior, is it then best practice to keep all sheep/pigs in one area and chickens in another?
  18. In the wiki it states: Animals can consume food from 0.6 blocks away and mate at a distance of up to 10 blocks away. With this distance, will animals breed through walls, fences, gates/doors? If male/female animals are penned separately but side by side, would they breed through the separation? Also, will hares that are captured in a pit or other means despawn if there is still sufficient lighting? Will they lose weight over time? Being that they aren’t able to be domesticated and hence cannot be fed, the idea is to have a pen or rabbits (or even wolves) on hand to butcher as needed. Anyone have more info on this?
  19. So I was panning some bony soil and dredged up a tin bronze lamellae. In the description it reads it smelts into 1x tin bronze ingot. It wouldn’t go into a crucible, forge, or even onto the anvil. I ended up trying the chisel, but it only recovered tin bronze bits totaling 50 units (half an ingot). I didn’t try building bloomery, maybe that’s how you smelt lamellae into ingots? Any direction would be appreciated!
  20. So I’m assuming that less than 8 will also allow the chance for domesticated animals to despawn?
  21. How exactly is lighting rated? How does it work? For example, a torch has an “intensity” of 14, but what exactly does that mean? Does it illuminate a 14 block radius? If so, does that radius diminish by 1 “intensity” per block away from the source? I ask because I’d like to make the most efficient use of lighting to affect spawns. What is the minimum intensity to prevent drifters from spawning? To keep domesticated animals from despawning?
  22. Slab glass roofs are also known to cause problems. You could try replacing the slabs with full blocks.
  23. I’d like to share a tip I have recently discovered… Let’s say your hot bar is empty. You can shift + left click items from your inventory to quickly add it to your hot bar. That’s nothing new. Alternatively, you can hover over an item and push the corresponding number to add it to the hot bar as well. Again, not new. Now, the neat thing is if you have an item in your hot bar, hover over any empty space in your inventory, storage chests, or even your crafting menu, push the number for the item in the hot bar and it will move that item to the empty space you’re hovering over! This is super useful for cooking or crafting anything that uses many different items… so much better than dragging your mouse all over the place for each item.
  24. What tests have you tried? Tried building a new fire pit? Burning different materials? Smelting in a different crucible?
