  1. Sorry to say, but it's true. Do you remember how riot games was an "angel investor" all the way back when Hytale released that viral trailer? Turns out they weren't just an "angel investor", Hytale eventually got outright bought by riot games, which of course is 100% owned by Tencent, which is owned by the CCP. That's why it's been in development hell for so many years. Imagine if you created a spiritual successor to the world-famous game that kickstarted your career, then released a trailer for it that got tens of millions of views and set the entire Internet ablaze with excitement. Would you have decided to sell out BEFORE you released it to the public in an alpha/beta/release form, or hell, sell out at all? It's unfathomable to me. I can hardly imagine the drama that unfolded behind the scenes, let alone the amount of benjamins shifting palms.
  2. Don't be a coward. Notch talked about and advertised minecraft on 4chan (among other sites), because he was a channer. He was a fedora-tipping caricature of a channer that achieved lightning in a bottle while temporarily hiding his power level (which he no longer restrains because he has fuck you money) for profit. Reddit was not responsible for the popularity of Minecraft, it merely appeared there once it had already picked up steam elsewhere. Reddit is the marker of something breaching containment, it rarely builds up anything but memes, grooming gangs and anti-capitalist schemes (some of which are funnny, like wallstreetbets aka "like 4chan found a bloomberg terminal", and some of which are funny in a sad way, like antiwork). It's none of my concern whether this game is gatekept or not, as there's nothing to be gatekept. "Undesireables" are already here and Tyron handles them reasonably. I don't know the man, but considering his persona I don't think more success would alter his development philosophy very much. Of course, nobody knows unless and until it happens, but the least likely thing is yet another sellout to some big corp. If Tyron was like that he would've stuck with Hytale and all its Tencent CCP money.
  3. The cheer emote, the cry emote, and the bow emote. Shouldn't they have sounds? Especially the cheer and cry emotes, with hip hip hooray's and boo hoo hoo's respectively.
  4. Oceans are here with 1.18, hallelujah! Now all we need are geologically realistic rivers/lakes, and it's a nigh perfect terrain generation system in my book.
  5. Good luck! In relation to your talk of "MMO server experience", the community as it stands seems to prefer gated communities of lightly-modded vanilla above all, which frankly is a testament to the quality of the core gameplay loop and to the type of player who particularly enjoys it. It's interesting that minigame and gamemode servers have, thus far, not managed to gain a foothold. Civilization servers of various types have lived and died, as have servers with interesting (though not always fun) gimmicks or server settings, but I have never in all my days seen a minigame server. I probably just missed its coming and going, if it ever came and went at all. I've also never seen hide nor hair of adventure maps, let alone servers that host them on rotation. If I'm ignorant on any of these servers, or if you or anyone else knows an interesting type of server that strays from good 'ol vanilla, I'd be very curious to hear about it.
  6. Shields exist, but if I may be frank, they are poorly implemented. Having to hold shift to "activate" shields only encourages combat to consist entirely of crouch-walking around each other like turtles, slowly stabbing the other to death. There's no skill or fun involved. The simplest, most barebones solution for this is to activate shields with right click rather than shift, and to implement a cooldown for said activation, effectively turning it into a shield parry. This alone will end the crouch-pvp and add fun/skill to combat.
  7. I'm aware that you can customize world size to an extent within the "customize" section of singleplayer new world creation (see attachment 2), though as far as I'm aware you can only determine an exact size through a server config (see attachment 1). However, as far as I can tell, not all customization options for singleplayer are available within the server config, e.g. global temperature, forestation etcetera. What I'm essentially wondering is how I can have the best of both worlds; That is, how can I have an exactly custom world size AND custom forestation/global temp/etcetera?
