Ready to join a server, but there is a catch...
Anthony frailey replied to BigBadBeef's topic in Multiplayer
Beef, i'm not convinced the classes encourage that themselves, in itself. It would depend on if all classes are played, and got enough people where that'd become important factor. What usually goes on, is most players playing hunter, blackguard, and malefactors anyways. With a low population server, it'd be better to have "roles" than classes. As in, one person does - most- the farming, one does hunter/explore , one cooks and sets up most home based needs, and so forth. Of course anyone can do these things, and fill in as needed. As the community grows, then introduce or delegate (offer ) responsibilities. Since i know you are wolf slayer, hehehe.... I'd be bugging you for fats and hides all the time. -

Did bit of updating around the homestead. After three re-works, finally got the windmill set up about how I wanted it. Now just waiting on the flax to ripen, so i can make all my sails. -
don't forget to pan sand/boney soils for early game treasures, copper nuggies , flint/bones... cntr+shift place tools on ground lean against walls. Firewood can be stacked, so can peat. cooking pit can be used to store a couple of things. Be wary of items despawning, just tossing on ground.

some of the things been working on updating in new homestead -
sorry for necro, but heres what i had planned on doing, set up four windmills, connect each to large gear, drop down from the large gear on those, to another large gear , that will able to angle gear/drive the various devices ( hammer, pulverizer , and quern) .. will that work, or am i over-engineering it?

ahh, ok i see. chiseling for decoration is not something i have tried yet. Thought about it, seemed tedious, so i have really only used chisel for recipes and breaking down ingots into bits. I am bit of a lazy "builder" , most my builds are very modern/flat roof style , because i cannot bring myself to design anything with a pitched roof. My "style" is usually more practical, than nice looking. Though i do try some mixing of blocks, updating to bricks, and use different glass and wood colors when i can. -

i think i tried with purple heart wood, and it wouldn't come up in crafting grid, when looking at the recipe, it shows only ebony and doesn't cycle through other woods. -

egads, so as i went to upload screenshots, noticed i only captured one on last playthrough... so will update later this evening. I had to start over , my game file got corrupted on a save, and wouldn't allow me back to what i had, so just started fresh... doing things bit different atm too... re-vamped my settings, and re-enabled primitive survival mod. I went in high heat, humid world seed, making vast majority of it, very jungle like environment. New builds i'm doing, whats shown here is after about 3-ish hours of play, getting my pit kiln area, and smithy portion going. -

they were! lol, at the very least everything was inspired by his words, or what the mod already did! hehehe i understand... regardless i love the mod. -
if you pan boney soils too ( boring but highly recommended to do) , you'll get a lot of the journal books. if you use the better ruins mod , you'll find lot of papers and scrolls too in chest that have info on them. ( I did not know tapestries had lore, I just been sticking them on my wall, lol ) to toss in my two cents ... the elements are there for the lovecraft style, and has things going on in game on it, however, these features can be turned off mostly in settings, that is in my opinion, absolute genius on the part of the devs. And to answer... the ONLY part you will lack is finding temporal gears from spawned drifters , which we all know, is low chance of attaining one that way anyways, if these features are turned off. I like the option, to play with these elements, or without ... Thats the key point, options. I get to set the level of enjoyment , for what I am feeling and wanting at the time I decide to play. That in itself, is what players should be looking at in regards to this game. Vintage story, is a sandbox , and like all sandboxes ... you have to rely on yourself , to make your own fun inside what's available. thats sorta with any game really, even linear, lead you by the nose games. ( I read the earliest post on this topic, noted a few tried claiming, such open world sandbox, isn't fun for Most players. This is unfounded, and highly untrue statement. Where are the statistics, where's the research proof of this concept? Even then, it'd be a question, of what audience was targeted, five year olds that squeak into the mics , or seasoned survival game experts? Point of fact, it was opinion of the persons stating, not fact. If one sees trends, players over-all prefer games Without restrictive pay walls, linear must do this, or that, or even more absurd... survive the "end boss" , or locked content that hinders the -casual- progression, advancement, and widely more important.. over-all enjoyment of playing.) its not entirely a "survival" game, not entirely a building game, but some of a cross-breed inbetween the two, with out being a "simulation" game at the same time. It's at the stage it is in now, less an issue of not enough content, but MORE of an issue of how much players can think for themselves, with what content is there. THATS the issue here truly. and when the vanilla content, seems to run dry... pop over to mods, and add in extra content. It should refresh the the experience. Can always start new game, on new seed ... tweak the environment or world settings, want more of a frustrating challenge? Play in a hot arid desert world, and try to find clay, lol. ( it can be had... but panning hundreds of sand block for enough to make few essentials, is bit time consuming and on the boring side. ) But mods extend the playability, offering new things to do , new tools, items, some quality of life improvements... the slightest thing can and will make a difference there in. is VS a perfect game? ... No. No game is, even huge budget AAA titles. Is VS a "Good' game? Yes for what it is, its a very good game.

no animals were harmed Primitive Survival

As it stands, if i take bushmeat, i let it rot , or i jerky it use it as hook baits. There needs to be -other- uses for it , if meal making isn't quite a thing there. Maybe render it for fat? a 4 to 1 ratio? Hyenas and wolves are to blame there , i probably wind up with twenty times the amount of bushmeat vrs redmeat in any given play through. Simply because, those animals are aggressive and attack suddenly while exploring. Good sources of fat and hides though. Every game, i find more than enough crabs, or it seems they find me. I normally don't bother collecting the meat, unless its very early game , just getting started. I did note, you can't smoke it or salt it though. The smoker wasn't too bad for me to make. I think my only real complaint, it takes twine to truss... flax is kinda precious commodity, early-mid late game. Its used for quite a few things. Cordage , I think, would be sufficient to truss as well. ( trust me, the wood beehive in golden combs, takes both linen, and ebony wood. i see content creators, find loads of ebony , I find it to be the rarest tree in VS. That thing takes a lot of work to make! ) Horseshoes... I said that, actually thinking of a similar game we play here in southern USA , same principle, but we use large washer steel rings, and toss into a "pit" with a 3" round pipe or hole set in the ground, or commercially has a box with such a pipe in center of it. Similar to "cornhole" game. Interesting about the tree hollows. I said horseshoes , because that seems more universally understood , than game i actually play, in the related toss genre. Now if we could, turn the tree hollow hole "up" , your mechanics might suffice for an actual similar game. It's take a bit of prep, different stone types ( colors) per player. terraform a lane flat, set a tree hollow, flush in ground on two ends, play in pairs, or teams. Heh. it -could- work. Bones, do not seem to have enough use in game either. Why for is there no "bone" armor , something similar as the starting grass/wood armor? can only use bone as knife and axe handles, but Only on stone heads. Other than that, bone meal fertilizer ... even then, its the least beneficial fertilizer, and you only need so much. Eh, sorry woke up early, and i'm rambling on. Sling ammo, yes please? it is easy to find rocks , ... but there's no way to scale up the device as you progress. I like it better than the bows myself. I thought, making bronze, iron, lead, maybe even steel "sling bullets" could be a thing. New clay mold for casting metals? On cooking/bread... i actually find it ironic , we cannot put jam on bread, or make sandwiches. Hahaha. Berry bread , i was eating a multi-berry muffin, thought, how isn't this a thing in VS? I had no idea it was in expanded foods. -

By far, this mod ranks up as "must have" for VS ... it's up there with step up and carry capacity in my book. Though, how come we cannot smoke crab meat? And I sorta understand VS authors were -trying- to make early game survival harder , but why not put bushmeat as a viable stew meat in this mod. I know it's compatible with bushmeat meals mod, and expanded foods ... I'd offer these suggestions, as to keep from needing to run a host of different mods. 1- berries and fruit, should be ale to be dried in the bread and pie oven. 2- Don't know why two pieces of flint cannot be used to start a fire : strike a spark on the tinder ... 3- Berries and fruits should be able to mixed in bread dough ( without having to have expanded foods mod to do that one thing. ) 4- Sling bullets would be nice , lobbing stones is good, but crafting some heavy weight metal rounds to lob doing comparable damage to tiered metal arrows would be nice. 5- throwing knives/stars would be fun .. not needed, just fun. 6 No ones has modded in dart board as a mini game yet, or horse-shoes toss game. 7- lore books on the extras found in Primitive survival would be nice, i found two etheric gears in my fish trap... still got no idea what they are used for. Traders don't want em. Over-all, though.. still my favorite mod for the quality of life extras it has, plus some nifty things... monkey bridges , cordage, fishing/trapping ... its good fun. -
don't matter if i had outdated version on my system, that's not an authors fault. The skivvy there ... expanded foods is wonderful system , no doubt. it gives variety ... but in just a single player custom setting world on survival, it both had bit too much to offer , combined with fishing, and crab killing, plus traps ... , and I like Prim Survival too much, not to use it ..., it was bit too easy, and too much variety for a lone single player really. ( Such would be great for multiplayer, if someone or some-ones was playing a "cook" or baker roll in game.) I stopped using Expanded foods quite a few versions ago. I had the mod still, just left it unchecked in the mod manager , but this latest update, re-applied all the mods i had unchecked for some reason. Portions of various other mods wouldn't work, throwing errors at me ( or the log) , sometimes crashing trying certain things. It took me a bit to discover what went on, I wound up removing outdated mods , and replacing a couple with latest available versions.

Ha no, it was one of the outdated versions of Expanded foods, i guess when i updated VS to latest version, it did not keep my active mod settings.

I think it has to do with blocking temperature air flow and light levels. I got significantly worse preservation times, using various stone cobbles , the best is to dig your 7x7x3 , one more than that, 8x8x4 and line with either clay brick, or hardened clay blocks ( takes forever to do.) with a entry way, no matter if door, trapdoor with a hallway that no light from the open door can get into the room, even if you use torches or oil lamps in the cellar itself. I found just about -anything- you seal the room with, increases preservation time, even noticeable difference if door is open or closed.

I had shown the bedroom upstairs, but not the original hut , Only packed dirt I used was the floor in original hut, rest was harvested cobble and mudbrick. I added some decor blocks here and there. Been considering changing it up , however, nostolgia of the humble origins, keep me from doing it. View is from one way, to the other. Outside a couple shots of my always work in progress homestead. Probably this weekend, I'm going to tear down the entire windmill tower, relocate it and re-design it. One shot of my Milk farm , and one of my humble apiary , i think i got 10 full skeps in it ( I usually harvest 8 at a time, leave two for repopulating.) -
Funny, ok I forgot i had primitive survival enabled on my play through, and while it's not early game ( need a saw for boards and flax for twine) , I discovered this: It works too, meat outside after smoked, last a year in warm climate. In the cellar in storage, 7 years. However, once smoked, you cannot cook meals with it, only roast on firepit. But it is preservation.
