As for surviving, killing drifters restores a portion of your stability, preventing stronger ones from spawning. There will be tier 2-3 monsters spawning anyway, so if you're not ready to go full doom guy and Jonas their parts, bunker up in a 1by2 with a torch and no ventilation.

Yeah the gills always seemed like a very loose categorisation, probably mostly as a precaution for poisonous species found in eastern european forests. I have to say I wouldn't be 100% comfortable implementing a feature like that not being an expert, especially with how many mushroom books are being reported with wrong information. It would be fun to have a small quirk for every forage type though. As for the names, I'm pretty well aware of e.g. fly agaric and death cap being the poisonous mushrooms™, however I was not familiar with their english names before looking into the subject, even though I'm pretty fluent and I play in default language. Just in case anyone was interested in some feedback from a non native. So basically weed need a champion like Gneiss, just for mushrooms. Hit us up, we're a loyal fanbase.

I treated myself to a bit of a web pondering and meditation sesh, and here's my idea: I was often told by my parents and in school that poisonous mushrooms often have gills under the cap and it's a bad sign. So how about mushrooms have just the nutrition stat shown, but apart from the name there's also a list of characteristics like color, shape, smell, etc. I feel a mini system like that would fit in well with all the other fun&learn foraging systems of this game. As for the mystery mushroom stew given to you by your friend, well good luck with that .

I play with a map, but some nights are so dark you are pretty much done without a light source. I chose a few peaks near my ruins settlement and made a few 3x3 roofed beacons with oil lamps inside, so I never miss when Gondor calls. Right now I'm settling in my new base near archives and there's so much woods and cliffs, even full daylight and a map is barely any help without making a path.

I have not encountered it, but if you have a spare mouse definitely try it. Do not get fooled by the price of your hardware. First I would try cleaning your scroll wheel encoder with some aqua vitae and blowing it out.

I find the new berry system pretty fair. The amount of berries you can get just by foraging in the wild is already very generous. It's always good to leave some bushes for expeditions, and in multiplayer you don't have to take all the bushes from everyone else. Berries are fine, fruit trees are fine, don't panic, don't rob yourself of fun that you paid for.
