Greenhouse not working?

Hi I'm new to this game, half way through my first winter, trying to set up a greenhouse on a lake for the coming farming season, but the 5 degree buff is not showing.

The walls are pine planks, 3 high 7 long without corners, the 7X7 farmland is surrounded by water, and is supported by a layer of dirt blocks. The ceiling is 7X7 lower glass slabs with no obstruction to sunlight. Only one pine door as the entrance.

What am I missing?

Allow up to ten minutes for the farmland to realize that it is in a greenhouse. If there still isn't anything happening after that, we can look at the construction.

You can make do with a lot less water, by the way. Water irrigates all eight blocks surrounding it equally, even diagonally.

True, it's the agonizing scream from the few blocks with 50% moisture I just couldn't stand.

Checked again, still nothing. Used /roomregdebug hi, the main building has a green box, but the greenhouse either fully inside a red box, partially, or not at all. While having no buff, and with a room icon showing from the status HUD mod.

I'm using a solid pine door.

Somehow it worked now.

Changed the glass slabs to full glass block, didn't help.

Extended the 7x7 dirt platform under the farm land to 9x9 to cover the wall under the water block, didn't help.

Further extending the platform out and up 1 block, so the outer facing sides of the water block are all covered. Suddenly, greenhouse.

In short, don't build greenhouse on a lake, just build it on land like a normal person would.

That's the important bit. Farmland is not quite a full block high, as you can see from your first pic. In order to be an enclosed space, you have to put a row of full blocks around the outside of the greenhouse the same elevation as the farmland.

That means if you put water under the walls, you can't share walls in adjacent greenhouses. At least I've never been able to get that to work. I've always had to put something like an enclosed breezeway between two greenhouses built with water under the wall.
