The wiki says dry salt lakes of halite appear under the sand/gravel layer. In real life, there are ones that are more obvious and exposed:

Salt flats should be allowed to generate unhidden by the sand or gravel layer. (Assuming the wiki isn't wrong or outdated on this.)

I'd also love to be able to make salt pans along the coast. It could be something like laying stone slabs flat in the top layer of sea water and enclosing them on all but one side would make a salt pan (like how the game figures out you're making a charcoal pit). In the height of summer, or after enough days with a high outside temperature, a layer of salt could form on the central slab.

I don't want to be a miner just to make my cheese.
