Horned Owl Posted March 5, 2024 Report Posted March 5, 2024 (edited) Just a random post but I was curious on your guys opinions on restoring ruins and then living in them. I quite like the idea of restoring stuff and I wanted to see if anybody else also has tried it, also i wanted to show off my epic shack. The new update sure makes me wanna do it more often with the more detailed and enhanced ruins especially ones with prebuilt cellars. Edited March 5, 2024 by Horned Owl Extra line 6 1
Straille Posted March 5, 2024 Report Posted March 5, 2024 i tend to prefer living in ruins, rather than building everything myself on one save, i fell through the ceiling of a large ruin with three beds, so i decided to host a multiplayer server for my friends for a bit 1
xXx_Ape_xXx Posted March 5, 2024 Report Posted March 5, 2024 I do this all the time, as they make for great starter shelters and easy, free, durable building materials 1
ifoz Posted March 26, 2024 Report Posted March 26, 2024 (edited) I always love doing this, it's so fun to restore ruins! Sometimes you get the outline of a house already laid out for you, and sometimes you have to be a bit more creative and imagine what the rubble in front of you used to look like. In my first ever singleplayer world I took shelter on the first night in a ruined tower, and eventually turned it into a little fortress town. Always a good time! Edited March 26, 2024 by ifoz 1
Foltig Posted April 8, 2024 Report Posted April 8, 2024 I've stayed away from refurbishing ruins. This is RP motivated, as I've found books (with the current character) that speak of terrible times. My characters is afraid of the ruins or what effect they'll have on him and will not stay close, other than a quick investigation. Most items he finds, he leaves there, unless they're super useful. It's a great idea though! My next character may be looking to restore the civilisation of old, I'll have to find out! Please follow up this post with a bigger building, once you've gotten to it! I'm very interested to see what you'll make of it! 3
Magmabot16 Posted October 31, 2024 Report Posted October 31, 2024 I love doing this type of stuff, I recently came upon what I think was a church and I want to rebuild it, but I don't have any reference for how it might have been originally shaped. Is there any way to view the templates the game uses to generate ruins? 1
Echo Weaver Posted October 31, 2024 Report Posted October 31, 2024 I refurbished a surface ruin for my base, but it's difficult to retain much of the original character of the building because of chiseled blocks that don't conform to the grid. For example, I had a nice, in tact doorway that I was not able to place a door in because the whole thing was a half-block off the grid sideways using half-width chiseled blocks.
NastyFlytrap Posted October 31, 2024 Report Posted October 31, 2024 Its so much effort to make them look good, and even just making them useful for practical purposes its not an insignificant amount of effort. Im sticking to my 'year one dirt hut to year two mansion' progression for now.
