Daimon Posted April 23 Report Share Posted April 23 I want to do another playthrough through this great game, but have my head set on a black building material. For the longest while, this thought actively kept me away from this game, up until now when my sheer will to play this game overwhelms the chore that lies in front of me. Finding a world that spawns you on basalt, with some decent building spots. At the moment I am on day 2 of "playing" this game in my free time, which mostly consists of entering world creation, setting my 15-20 preferred options in world gen, waiting the load to finish, changing my chars appearance, setting hunter class aaaaand... no basalt. Maybe do a quick flyover of the vicinity in creative mode, but during about 50 created worlds, I only once spotted a tiny island of basalt amid mostly unspectacular wasteland, given the thickness of the layer probably not even enough material to actually build something without limiting myself from the start. Can we get A: Some option that sets your starting geologic formation? I bet this also eliminates the constant discussion about limestone/chalk that I too had my issues finding on my last game some time ago, but at least I had basalt back then. Or B: At least a checkbox in the options to keep the last used world creation options and character appearance, this would make grinding through worlds so much quicker. I'm hard pressed to engage in the work of writing an AHK script that does world creation for me... but then, I'm surely only 1 world away from my fabled basalt start, right? ifoz Posted April 23 Report Share Posted April 23 (edited) I don't know how common this is, but in my experience I always find basalt generates at around Y10. No matter the surrounding rock strata, I always find basalt at Y10. Also I'm pretty sure character creation has a "use last settings" checkbox. Streetwind Posted April 23 Report Share Posted April 23 You can reuse world customization options already, though admittedly it's quite hidden... 1.) Create a world with the settings you want 2.) Quit to menu 3.) On the screen where you load the game/enter the world, click the Edit World button on the right side 4.) In the line that says "Playstyle", click the copy button on the right side 5.) Go back, begin creating a new world, and bring up the Customize screen 6.) Press CTRL+V (or your regional paste command equivalent) 7.) So long as the playstyle info remains copied in your clipboard, you can rapidly create several new worlds with identical settings As for spawning on basalt - try asking around on Discord for a seed that has it. Rock strata are seed-bound, so long as certain world settings (particularly World Width and World Length) are kept identical. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Never seen that button "Last Selection" in the char creation and copying the world options and CTRL+V in the world creation options is a little less intuitive, but will save me a lot of chore in my future quest for the perfect basalt shield! Thanks a lot! Yet a clear option to select some kind of starting rock would still be nice, as it dictates so much creative freedom with building with whatever one likes. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Set up your quarry in granite or whatever is local, mine as many stacks as you think you need, toss them down a pit somewhere, switch to creative and give yourself that many stacks of basalt.
