Hello,

I have been playing Vintage Story v1.20.0-rc3 and I have been getting some very weird "micro-stutters" or "hitching". I have completely stable fps (400+ if I don't limit them) but I keep getting these weird stutters where the fps is basically 0 (so frozen) for about half a second or a second.

And in the in-game profiler it also shows these big spikes, where the framerate is basically 0 (as seen in the screenshot).

They are very regular, like every 3-5 seconds or so.

I have no clue what is causing them.

It doesn't seem graphic settings related at all, because it happens on the Absolute Minimum preset as well.

I tried V-Sync On/Off, unlimited/limited FPS, already changed the RAM-Optimizer mode to don't optimize at all in the config (as seen in the screenshot).

I have no USB-dongles or anything, which I read could also cause this except my mouse, my keyboard and my headset.

What is this and is it the game or my system, do any of you also experience this?

My PC specs are:

Gigabyte Z490UD motherboard

32GB DDR4 RAM

i7-10700KF

Nvidia 4080 GPU

144Hz Monitor from OMEN at 1920x1080

I checked the discord, and it appears it's a RAM issue. Game wants too much, doesn't have enough, so it freezes to free up ram so it can keep going. I closed my browser while playing and it fixed the issue for me.

I still had these even though Vintage Story was the only thing open on my PC.
I also have 32GB of RAM, is that really not enough?

That's probably not it, not with that view distance, @lm_2000.

On my i7, more or less the same specs, I do not get that, even with higher settings. Only thing I don't use is God Rays. The rest I have cranked a bit higher..

Same here, 32 GB of 6,000 MHz ram, on an AMD 7900 XTX. Definitely running a lot more sluggish and hitching more. However it was a new world, and I did spawn next to mountains that go all the way up to world height or close.

Also the HDR seems broken. Previously all the tone mapping was working great on my OLED, but this time it was very washed out, regardless of brightness or day and night. I even tried turning off the setting, I forgot the name, it disables sepia and such, and it did nothing.

Have you opened up some RAM monitoring software on another monitor, even the basic Windows one, and check it out? I've been running into memory leaks in some mods such that I can watch the RAM get filled up, to the point 32g is not enough with all the virtual RAM swapping.

Must have been something changed in the API. I can't imagine anything else explains why some really good modders all introduced memory leaks at the same time.

No, definitely not ram, I've got 32 and im not even running anything else when I play. I know it can be an issue, but i dont think its the case here. Using vanilla, so no mods.

All I can say is that it worked for me. I have 16g of ram, and am on ubuntu linux 24.04. It's certainly a new issue (for 1.20), and not something that's supposed to be happening. It does occasionally happen to me when the browser is closed, but much less often. IMO it's RAM related, but it's more of a symptom than the sickness.

Getting this myself, with 32GB of RAM as a client, which only uses about 16GB at most

VRAM isn't even 10% full

GPU is ~60% utilized (RX 9070 non-XT) but shows it drops to ~40% for that one frame, then goes all the way back up

CPU utilization is also not much, even per-core none go above 60%

it's also settings agnostic. Nothing I change impacts it.

Sounds like a memory leak.

Yes, but turns out it was One mod causing it (Visible High Fertility Soil)

Particle overload even at reduced settings

I downloaded VS at version 1.2 and the game has literally never run right for me. The game freezes for a second or two every second or two. I really want to play this game, but at this point I feel like I threw away $20 for nothing. I am running vanilla, specs as follows.

I9, 13900k

64GB RAM

GTX4090

Running on Samsung m.2 nvme in Windows 11

All the latest drivers, no extraneous software running in the background.

I have no such issues on any other game or program. Please help :(
