Murlok Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 I started reading the forum and noticed that some players write that the character in the game moves "slowly". However, I got the impression that the character in the game runs unnaturally fast, has a very strange inertia and simply jumps on blocks disgustingly when he stands close to them. It would be interesting to hear your opinions on this matter, how do you feel the movement?
Thorfinn Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 If one is talking realistically, novice joggers should be able to do a 5k in around a half hour. In VS, it takes all of 8 hours. So concessions were made in the interests of having a good game instead of a reality sim. 2
Murlok Posted April 3, 2025 Author Report Posted April 3, 2025 (edited) Just now, Thorfinn said: If one is talking realistically, novice joggers should be able to do a 5k in around a half hour. But I'm talking specifically about the feeling of movement. It's hard for me to formulate what exactly bothers me. If I find time tonight, I'll go in and just run around in the game to better formulate what I mean. edit. I remembered what really spoils the feeling of movement for me! CAMERA inertia. Is it possible to turn it off? edit 2. I think I remembered that camera inertia only exists in water. Okay, I'll try to formulate it better when I get into the game. Edited April 3, 2025 by Murlok
Murlok Posted April 3, 2025 Author Report Posted April 3, 2025 Another thing that seemed strange to me. The character accelerates at the same speed in all directions. That is, I can run backwards while accelerating from the Shift key. It feels a little strange, especially considering the lack of unique animations for these movements. I wonder why it is done this way, and not like in most other games. I made a sketch of how it works in other games when you simultaneously hold down the W and D keys with and without the Shift key.
LadyWYT Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 I would chalk it up to being jank due to the game being early in the development still, and not anywhere close to a finished product. A lot of animations are a little janky, not just player movement, but I think the priority right now is to just have something that looks decent and works. 1
Per Edman Posted April 6, 2025 Report Posted April 6, 2025 Thnks for reminding me. Yes, movement feels "weird" and "jank" is the best word for it. A disproportionate amount of development time is spent on de-jank, and still basic things like movement, monster hitboxes or alt-use shift-ctrl-alt-right-click are unintuitive and odd.
