Tom Cantine Posted April 11, 2025 Report Posted April 11, 2025 It's strange. I have never seen the moon in the night sky in this game, but I was on a public server with a friend last night and he said he saw it. Is this a settings thing? Did I miss something in the settings? Or is there some difference between platforms such that a Mac doesn't show the moon?
Tom Cantine Posted April 17, 2025 Author Report Posted April 17, 2025 Seriously, has anyone else seen, or not seen, the moon in-game? Am I hallucinating its absence? Was my friend hallucinating its presence? I see a few mentions of the moon on the Wiki, and there's even a client command to tell the phase of the moon, but how come I can't see it?
Zane Mordien Posted April 17, 2025 Report Posted April 17, 2025 The moon is always there. Not sure why you wouldn't see it.
Thorfinn Posted April 17, 2025 Report Posted April 17, 2025 Could be a Mac thing, I suppose. Don't have a Mac, so can't tell you one way or the other.
Tom Cantine Posted April 17, 2025 Author Report Posted April 17, 2025 Any other Mac users wanna chime in? Is the moon a hoax?
Ernie Pippin Posted April 18, 2025 Report Posted April 18, 2025 There is definitely a moon @Tom Cantine. It's square because Vintage Story, but it's there. It even has phases (so it's not always up at night), and can even cause eclipses, which are very cool to see. 1
Tom Cantine Posted April 18, 2025 Author Report Posted April 18, 2025 Then my question becomes: Why is the moon not displaying for me? Is there some setting I need to change, or is there a bug on the Mac version, or what?
LadyWYT Posted April 18, 2025 Report Posted April 18, 2025 Are you only looking for the moon at night, or have you looked during the day as well? I'm not sure exactly what cycle Vintage Story's moon runs on, but it's more realistic than the other block game's moon, so it's not uncommon to see it during the day and not at night. If I'm not mistaken, it's only present in the sky a few hours out of each day as well. An additional factor to consider is whether you live in an area that has a lot of forest or mountains. If you do, it may be hard for you to get a clear view of the moon, since it can be lower in the sky depending on time of year.
Tom Cantine Posted April 18, 2025 Author Report Posted April 18, 2025 I was standing on the roof of my house, right next to my friend who was remarking on the moon. "There, between those clouds!" he said through Discord voice chat. I did not see it. We were standing in the same spot, looking in the same direction. I am mystified. I have NEVER seen it in any of my solo worlds, either.

Have you tried reinstalling the game, just in case a file was somehow corrupted?
Tom Cantine Posted April 19, 2025 Author Report Posted April 19, 2025 (edited) I could try that, I suppose, but I've been through several updates now, and as I said before, I have NEVER seen the moon in game, so it's something that's persisted through several versions. This also suggests that maybe it's some kind of setting I have unwittingly selected, though I can't imagine what it would be. Edited April 19, 2025 by Tom Cantine
DragonsDance Posted September 6, 2025 Report Posted September 6, 2025 I've never seen the moon either, in fact, I've come here looking for answers and found none. I'm also on a Mac, and I just updated to 1.21, and I couldn't see it in 1.20 either. I experience the darkness of lunar eclipses, but I can't see the moon in front of the sun. I also can't see the gears in temporal storms or standing in rifts. my friend played with me, on my world, and could see the moon and the gears, from a windows os. might be a Mac thing, which is quite sad! 1
