7embre Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 After running out of the attachments quota and clearing it to have more room for the new screenshots, how long these semi-deleted screenshots last? Semi-deleted, because after clearing the attachments section, these pictures were still present on their respective posts for some time - I don't know how long. I wanted to reference one of my old posts answering the question in a new one, and found out that pictures from the old one are not available. So yeah, what are the condition for the picture's final deletion, how can they be preserved on forums, if I, say, would want to make building progress log here? Is it true that only pictures from the "my attachments" section have guarantees to last? If so, is it possible to have extended attachments limit?
Thorfinn Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 Probably until you clear cache. If I try to pull it up on a new machine, it's insta-gone.

Um, mind clarifying? I don't really get how pictures on a cloud server, which VS forum uses, relates to your machine. I really doubt that they're stored on an individual's web browser.
LadyWYT Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 As far as I'm aware, as soon as you clear your folder on the forum to make space for new pictures, the old pictures will be gone from where they were posted. The posts will still be there, but there will be no images to go with.
wildforester Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 Too bad there’s a limit… I’ll have to go through my posts reuploading images via an external site to post more images. That’s possible, right?

Never Jhonsen Posted April 30, 2025 Report Posted April 30, 2025 That's the trouble with forums Photos cost money. Hosting files is expensive. Sites like Twitter and Tumblr have massively high server costs, due to the billions of photos being hosted on there. And for a small game like this, hosting an infinite amount of photos is just not feasible. I'm (pleasantly) surprised that they allow users to host a few images on their forum itself; that feature may leave as the forum gets busier. This forum doesn't have a direct option for one at the top of the edit screen, and I'm not sure if there's support for a typical [img] link insert, unless this works -> You could always paste an image and ask other to click on it (which feels as sketchy as it sounds), but otherwise there isn't a direct way to share external photos. I really doubt that they're stored on an individual's web browser. In order to prevent massive and constant web traffic, web browsers have a TEMP folder where it stores temporary web files; pages, images, text, and some other stuff. Which means, when you delete your VS Forum's image stash, any computer that saw those images in prior still have it saved in the web browser's cache files; that's why you still saw those images for a bit, they were still cache'd. 1

I don't bother with aggressive management on my browser settings, nor do I clear on exit. I just checked and I have a little over 7GB of images cached in my browser. Glancing through, a lot of them are from here.

Huh. So it really was the case, interesting. I didn't consider this, as the photos that were lost, were showing signs of, well, loading, prior to the disappearence and they disappeared without me clearing browser cache. 8 minutes ago, Thorfinn said: I don't bother with aggressive management on my browser settings, nor do I clear on exit. Lol, that's huge Anyway, I should probably ask these questions in a support ticket.. Thanks everyone for answering, will update if I learn something new Edited April 30, 2025 by 7embre

wildforester Posted June 22, 2025 Report Posted June 22, 2025 (edited) I'm just gonna test to see if I can display and image here with a link... html maybe https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ssbYaGystwfHANmmRZ7A_7oYFU-fiL/view?usp=drive_link <img src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ssbYaGystwfHANmmRZ7A_7oYFU-fiL/view?usp=drive_link" alt="mountains"> <img src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ssbYaGystwfHANmmRZ7A_7oYFU-fiL/view?usp=drive_link" alt="mountains"> <iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ssbYaGystwfHANmmRZ7A_7oYFU-fiL/preview" width="640" height="480" allow="autoplay"></iframe> <iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ssbYaGystwfHANmmRZ7A_7oYFU-fiL/preview" width="640" height="480" allow="autoplay"></iframe> AKGpihYYeLTndIUovC_G3ngpSG8U8aDIrViJEUplheTOOvnydyvhT_PKu73LKr52wglSxTPUyHacMS0EVLVZ1XqnMuj908Hhwtmy3fU=s1600-rw-v1 (1600×900) https://drive.google.com/u/0/drive-viewer/AKGpihYYeLTndIUovC_G3ngpSG8U8aDIrViJEUplheTOOvnydyvhT_PKu73LKr52wglSxTPUyHacMS0EVLVZ1XqnMuj908Hhwtmy3fU=s1600-rw-v1 I have a feeling that even before hitting enter none of this will work (in which case, could such functionality be added?) Official response was that "VS team have tested it, and with the way forums are currently setup, previews from external sources won't work", so they advised me to have low-res pics as a preview, and to post a link below it to the hi-res, which is stored on some third-party cloud service, as external links should work fine. In the meantime I did ask Tyron on one of his coding streams about that, and he said "I was thinking about increasing the limit", but I wouldn't take that as a promise. After all, our cookie man's got too much things (and cookies) to deal with. 1 2

Oh, good to know ! I'll do that next time I have a bunch of screenshots to share (and I'll replace those I have already posted).
