Hi, I'm still wanting to play but the 1.20.9 makes it near impossible with my early starting world(only like 4-10 hours on both) and spawning a million monsters all hours of the day, is there a way to go back to the old 1.20.8 version?? having trouble figuring it out

100% use this link in the client area. You can go back to any version of VS you want. Never tried 1.18? No problem, it is there.

this pops up when i start the old install. will i lose my save files if i try to install the older version?

You can also have multiple installations of VS and play whichever one you want (this is what I do). Look at this guide by Streetwind.

But, in answer to your question, a new installation should not delete save files*. If you want to be extra certain, you can always copy the save file to a different location.

*Of course you won't be able to play that save in 1.20.8 unless it was last saved in 1.20.8. Once it has been saved in 1.20.9, it is no longer compatible with 1.20.8 (or at least that is my belief; please correct if I'm wrong).

I managed just that in fact when I had to roll back from 1.20.9 to 1.20.8, when I was trying to debug a problem on my end, with log spam. It can be done. Worst thing that might happen is you may end up with some question mark blocks. But it is unlikely.

The game will also tell you if you are trying to open a save that was last saved on a newer VS version, and it cannot open it on an older version of VS.

so far i rolled back to 1.20.7 and it gave me the warning but there has been no meaningful difference, everything works fine!
