Casper Larsen Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 Hi so i have some trouble with rooms i am pretty new to this still but me and a friend have built this mill and nearly all the "rooms" made for it will not count as such we don´t know what we have done wrong since some blocks arent red when we use the /debug room hi command. We suspect that it is beacuse we used slabs for construction as our celler is acually green/confirmed to be a room and well we just used regular blocks for that. we have some picture of the house if anyone can spot why this might be If anybodies knows why this is happening we would really apricate it thank you in advance.
Daev Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 (edited) It is kind of hard for me to tell, but is that building just one big room or is it divided by inside walls? You may have exceeded the room size limit. It could by the slabs though if there are no other full blocks between it and the outside. EDIT: I looked at the what counts as a room and your build should definitely fit the 14x14x14 bounding box. Try replacing the slabs or changing orientation maybe? Edited May 13, 2025 by Daev
Maelstrom Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 Slabs are tricky. They can (or may not) be counted as a valid wall. It depends on which side of the building they occupy. If you build a stair and there's a bit of a gap between the slab wall and the stair, it's an invalid use of the slab. If there's no gap between stair and wall, the game will consider the slab a valid wall. For roofs, I have found it doesn't matter if the slab is in the upper or lower half of the block. Just make sure there are no air gaps. In the first pic, if the outside walls are slabs, it looks like they have the right orientation. If you have one big room AND it fits within the 14 block cube, the axles for mechanical power will break the room. Consider isolating the room with mechanical devices from other parts of the building.
Dilan Rona Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 (edited) As Maelstrom stated, the slabs are at fault. Switch to full blocks. If you use chiselled blocks, make sure that they don't exceed 50% used and do not have gaps in the blocks. It also needs to state that it is insulating blocks. Also get your cellar size down to 7x7x7 max on the inside. You can have 2 floors with the cellar if you split the room into 2. Thats what I do, and I have yet to get a failure with my cellar. https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Cellar/en Edited May 13, 2025 by Dilan Rona Correction in instructions for chiscelled blocks

Dilan Rona Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 My bad, I mispoke. Thanks for the correction. 1
Thorfinn Posted May 13, 2025 Report Posted May 13, 2025 It's been a while, but I think the rule is that either all the slabs have to be on the inside surface of the room, or the outside surface. You can't mix/match. Or at least when I tried it, it was no longer a room. So I switched back to full blocks, like the others advise, and never looked back.
Dilan Rona Posted May 15, 2025 Report Posted May 15, 2025 I also use chiselled blocks in some of my builds (even my cellar). But I always make sure that it is 100% full, with no gaps.
