Okay, I swear I'm not going crazy, but is anyone else having monsters (drifters mostly) appearing in their base even though every nook and cranny is lit up? I've even got a 5-6 block wall surrounding my entire base, so I've got no clue where they're coming from, as they seem to be in different parts of my base every time. I fear all these lead ingots may be getting to me.

xD

I have seen mobs sporadically spawn during daylight hours.  Had a shiver spawn behind me less than 10 blocks away during mid day without any rifts near by.  Fortunately, these unruly spawns are surface drifters and only one, so they're easily dealt with.

Ok I think there might be an issue with this, as I routinely come back home from smithing or cooking and find my attic filled with shivers and bow torns (no drifters though) sometimes it’s up to four bow torns, it’s really annoying (I have screenshots I can share later)

While I haven't seen bowtorns or shivers inside my home yet, I am convinced the devious and ominous rifts are following me around- watching, always watching. Particularly if you spend a lot of time around your base 2 or 3 will spawn nearby, just in case you weren't paranoid enough it seems(!)

Could be a lighting problem with the chunk.

I had one just yesterday, I built a new cellar way up high in the sky, and it was worse than my ground level one.

This is in the middle of the winter and I'm taking hypothermia damage, because it is so fucking cold up there.

I did a /debug chunk relight and lo and behold, the cellar started working as a cellar.

I only knew it was a light issue, because the status hud mod was showing cellar with sunlight.

There's also other debug commands you can use to check rooms if you are not using mods.

While this is opposite to the issue y'all are having, the same solution might help. You might need to pick your lights up and put them down again after the reset; I went up and found a bowtorn chillin in there even though there was a lantern, more than adequate for a 7x7. I replaced it and everything seems normal again.

Your base is probably too dark (even just barely), with a few nooks and crannies at or below light level 7 (the brightest level at which monsters can spawn).

I think the real problem is that light level 7 looks pretty well lit visually, and there's no Vanilla way to tell he difference between light level 7 and light level 8. It should be a lot more obvious if a tile is bright enough to prevent monster spawns without manually counting the tiles between light sources.

Oh, yeah, that is a real possibility too.

There is a mod that will show light levels too, very similar to the classic mod from the other game.

I've also been wondering if some of the issue is due to recent adjustments to the game's lighting--that is, brightening everything up a tad. So things might look too bright for monsters to spawn compared to before, but in reality it's just dark enough for them to appear.

That being said, there have been issues with the odd monster spawn or two in broad daylight, but those seem to have been cleared up in 1.21, as far as I can tell.

I am still seeing them. Like you said though, it is the odd monster spawn.

An oil lamp at the center of a 7x7 room just barely lights it enough to prevent drifters, but bowtorn and shivers should not spawn in there ever, and I get them, although very rarely.

Outside I see them here and there as well, I am not sure if heavy woods affects light. Almost positive they didn't come up out of a cave. Although, it may have been a few RC now, so it might have been fixed, just not in RC1 or 2.
