p1nkempress Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 i wonder if anyone has expanded upon that area of gameplay yet, just curious 2
ifoz Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 One of the story locations in the game is very parkour-heavy. 1
FlareUKCS Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 A mod called Verticality allows one to climb up 2 blocks, jump up and grab to climb 3 blocks iirc. 2 1
QueenGeeBee Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 Part of me wants them to add climbing into the vanilla game, like the verticality mod. Give malefactors a bonus to climbing to make their explorers playstyle even more fleshed out, just for fun. But yeah, as others have said, theres a parkour story section in act 2.
Dark Thoughts Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 I also think Verticality would fit well into the vanilla game. I just wish there was a UI element for the charged jump.

However, I'm also not sure that adding such a system would be a good idea since the game hasn't been designed with that kind of movement in mind. It's fine and very fun as a mod, but breaks the challenges present at the major story locations. In order to implement a movement system like that, story locations would need a complete redesign in order to preserve their challenge, and I'm not sure it's worth the time and resources to do that. An alternative would be adding some sort of tool required for climbing; that way you could possibly prevent climbing in story locations since using the tool would require "activating" a block. However, then you're left with the unimmersive question of "why can't I use this tool to climb in this spot that should be obviously climbable?" Not that we don't have that question already. In any case, I'm still inclined to say that climbing systems are better left to the modded realm. 1
VictorShadow Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) I think parkour or some sort of climbing should be in the base game, if only to make "simple" 2 block climb or 1 block holes not some impassable terrain without changing things (mining or placing blocks). I've climbed rocks or large boulders 3 metres tall or fit in gaps that are 1 metre, and I'm just a below average strength if thin 20's aged guy. If mister/missus seraph can somehow have the knowledge of everything needed to build a house (still no lore explanation for that or the guidebook) and cut down and move a whole tree then letting us climb a 2 block wall even if only by wedging ourselves between 2 walls like so: ■■■■ ■X ■ With X being the player. should be a possible thing to do. Having a parkour or just a simple climbing system would also add another thing for players to chose, with plate armour not letting player half fall damage by wall sliding down or fit in a 1 block passage in a cave while scale could get damaged when moving through 1 block gap. Thorfinn Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 I tried Verticality, but it messed up my running away. If I mis-timed my jump and stubbed my toe, it would go into the routine of trying to climb the silly block, and I'd get munched on by the shiver chasing me. It really needs to be something like sprinting or slow-walk, where it only is active when you are deliberately invoking it. The movement I was getting kind of reminded me of the late '80s game, Prince of Persia. Both in the movement itself, and how it reacted if you missed your jump.

You have to actively hold down a button for it to work, so I'm not sure what you're experiencing here. lol
Thorfinn Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) Oh, I see what happened. I tried the very first version. Between then and a couple versions later, the "climb" key was remapped. I never tried it after that first time. It didn't really do anything I wanted to do, and, worse, either is cheating in the storyline, or, if I disable it, have the habit ingrained and make mistakes.
