CynAq Posted June 30, 2025 Report Posted June 30, 2025 Hey all, so nice to see you! I bought a copy last friday and played for a few hours on the weekend. Started with the default settings and chose commoner to get the most out-of-the-box beginner's experience so I could gauge the intended play style and what personal changes I would want to make as I went along. I'm quite impressed with how well the game runs and feels. So far, it's very much my kinda game. Before starting myself, I watched a few people do blind starts and some more tutorial type videos from experienced players, and from those I had thought the experience would be much more tense and unforgiving than what I found out. I think the game is fairly well balanced and not at all frustrating to manage as long as you have an understanding of the basics, which I found quite intuitive to grasp. I didn't find it uniquely difficult or stressful at all, and that includes opening the game up and hitting play for the very first time only to spawn quite literally face to face with a bear in a crater-like formation with sheer walls all around and just one little exit in the far corner behind the bear. I died twice more and rolled another world after that and then I could spawn in relatively more favorable circumstances. I'd say it was smooth sailing after that. So far, I have a little dirt hut, a bunch of firewood, four hand baskets, a straw bed. I hunted a few boars and a deer. Foraged berries and mushrooms. I couldn't find a fish yet. I found that drifters and shivers die pretty quick after you stab them in the face a few times with a flint spear. I'm sure it'll be easier with better weapons. I haven't made a shield or any armor yet but those are next on the list for my second play session. Now, onto my little gripe: SAT is short for satiation, not saturation. It's driving me nuts when I watch other people playing. So, yeah... Cool game. I might pick up a couple gift keys for friends. 3 1 2

There's a little "Wolf Bait" emoji down in the corner. Now I wish it was "Bear Snack"! This is such a comedic new game experience that it reminds me of a time playing a similar block game with a mod that added boars. I cycled through so many different worlds because I thought that boar spawning was tied to the world seed. I'm glad your second world was more forgiving! 4 minutes ago, CynAq said: Now, onto my little gripe: SAT is short for satiation, not saturation. This is one such example of that, but a small hurdle to overcome. I really hope you enjoy the story and exploration that this game encourages. There are lots of little things to find hidden in nooks and crannies all around the world.. You just have to be lucky enough to find them! It shows! I'm running it on an old--but still beefy--macbook pro and it handles the default high settings like a breeze. Quote There's a little "Wolf Bait" emoji down in the corner. Especially with the trumpet sounds my character made trying to run past the bear. I think the hills surrounding the spawn point were too high for an alternative spawn so the game kept putting me in the same hole with the bear. Or it was just an RNG misshap and that's very ok. I'm looking forward to discovering the story and other hidden goodies. It's all very interesting from the little bits I gathered from watching videos. Thanks for the warm welcome @traugdor!
LadyWYT Posted June 30, 2025 Report Posted June 30, 2025 Welcome to the forums! Threads like this are always a refreshing breath of air, and it's fun to watch new players take their very first steps into the game. 32 minutes ago, CynAq said: Before starting myself, I watched a few people do blind starts and some more tutorial type videos from experienced players, and from those I had thought the experience would be much more tense and unforgiving than what I found out. Vintage Story can seem intimidating at first, but a lot of it is just that it's a very meaty game in terms of information you need to know, and most gameplay loops intertwine with each other in some fashion or another. Once you figure out how to progress things, the game becomes much easier, though it will still happily punish players who get too complacent. Regarding bears and wolves, it's pretty much a rite of passage to get mauled several times when learning the game. I've definitely been there. Bear trophy armor is supposed to be added next update, which I'm super excited about! 46 minutes ago, CynAq said: So far, I have a little dirt hut, a bunch of firewood, four hand baskets, a straw bed. Sounds like you're off to a great start too, and I daresay you'll get through winter without much issue at this rate. Fish I wouldn't worry too much about, when it comes to food. They're a convenient source if they happen to spawn nearby, but until proper fishing is implemented your time and effort is typically better spent elsewhere. 48 minutes ago, CynAq said: Now, onto my little gripe: SAT is short for satiation, not saturation. It's driving me nuts when I watch other people playing. Personally I tend to call it the hunger or stamina bar. I somewhat agree with @traugdor, in that it'd be a little less confusing if the community used a consistent name for it, but it is what it is. 49 minutes ago, CynAq said: So, yeah... Cool game. Just make sure to check the food before you eat it, unless you prepared it yourself. It's a bit of a running joke to sometimes slip a few...er...special shrooms...into a stewpot to feed your friends, heh heh. 3

I'm sure a part of it is lost in the translation. Though I have no idea what language would translate "saturation" reasonably closely to "satiation" or "satiety".

It could just be glossed over and referred to as what those creators were used to calling "hunger" in their previous block game. Despite it being called satiation in this game Edited June 30, 2025 by Enjen 1 1
