NinjaKid225 Posted July 22, 2025 Report Posted July 22, 2025 As simple as that. Make it to where Grass or other kind of foliage doesn't grow on tilled dirt. It gets annoying especially when during the transition from Winter to Spring and you gotta replant crops. But even more so when you have crops in the early game and you wanna plant other crops down and grass is just there. If that isn't in the plan well then I understand but still would be a nice QOL if you ask me 1 1
idiomcritter Posted July 22, 2025 Report Posted July 22, 2025 welcome to the forum @NinjaKid225 I see your point, lost many an axe, just to weed the spring fields of the grass (pita) (and why doesn't the hoe have the ability to weed better than an axe?!?) maybe to do it the VS way, a certain winter crop could be planted, so when spring comes along, a re-tilling could roll into the soil nutrients helpful for new seedlings to grow(?) as a type of work around when i decide to do it, i cover my tilled soil with hay bales til spring.... 2
Professor Dragon Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 I actually don't mind grass growing on farmland, because it provides a nice convenient little source of grass and horse-tails while it is being left fallow. Harvest with a stone knife, and punch it - it doesn't take long to clear even a big field , compared to everything else. (I just counted, and I have eight fields around just my current house, from small to large, and it took maybe a day to clear and plant everything in Spring. Then it is just rotational maintenance.) I like idiomcriter's suggestion of improving the hoe weeding ability AND the suggestion of a winter weed suppression crop - although that in itself would need harvesting. Perhaps the scythe technology (cut and grow no more vs cut and regrow) could be improved to permanently weed proof a farm. Or give this second mode feature to the hoe. But as I started out saying, I don't mind the regrow. Have you ever grown a garden? Weeds appear in the blink of an eye, so it is nothing but realistic. 4

I'm seconding you on this, fellow dragon. I use a scythe in the winter time to get my dry grass; it's either that, or go digging in the snow (Or remember to stockpile a shitton in the fall, but I play on 30-day months and that stockpile can only last so long) 14 hours ago, idiomcritter said: (and why doesn't the hoe have the ability to weed better than an axe?!?) It really should, the hoe's literally designed for this task, why is some axe better? Imagining some guy chopping the weeds like they're firewood, sending dirt everywhere, and then having to fight the axe back out of the ground it embedded itself in. 17 hours ago, NinjaKid225 said: but still would be a nice QOL if you ask me I know it's said a lot on this forum, but that can always be a mod idea. One that keeps "weeds" from spawning on empty tilled soil 1
Janeator Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 (edited) There would be no way where removing this would be a "QoL" update as getting grass and horsetail from a resting field is a bonus and to keep that intact you'd need to do extra steps. I mean go for that if you'd like. But really, just get a scythe, and enjoy the benefits. Learn the tools. Edited July 23, 2025 by Janeator 3
Thorfinn Posted July 24, 2025 Report Posted July 24, 2025 (edited) I agree its a part of the game, but if you really must, I'd look at the file .\assets\survival\blocktypes\soil\farmland.json Right near the top is the block weedBlockCodes: [ { code: "tallgrass-veryshort-free", chance: 1 }, { code: "tallgrass-short-free", chance: 1 }, { code: "tallgrass-mediumshort-free", chance: 1 }, { code: "tallgrass-medium-free", chance: 1 }, { code: "flower-horsetail-free", chance: 0.2 }, Change the chance to 0, and they might go bye-bye. If you, like me, are a little leery of divide by zeros, just change it to 0.000001, close enough to zero for all practical purposes. But it may not work that way. It might be the best you can do is choose what the weed will be, by changing horsetail to 1 and the others to 0.01. Play around with it a bit and see. Once you are happy, bundle it up with ModMaker, or when you update, it will be overwritten. Edited July 24, 2025 by Thorfinn 1 1
Lugh Crow-Slave Posted July 24, 2025 Report Posted July 24, 2025 This is the main way I farm horsetail and dry grass. It's all very easy to clear with a scythe. It also adds a little bit of maintenance to the loop beyond watering to get a small speed bump 2
Dilan Rona Posted July 25, 2025 Report Posted July 25, 2025 The grass on tiled farmland is nothing more than "weeds" imo. And I deal with it the same way. I just use bare hands though, and it does provide the occational horsetail as well. 1
