ApacheTech Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 (edited) It'd be nice to have books that we can write in, paper we can write notes on, and shingles to allow signage for shops and other buildings. Especially in Multiplayer, this will be really handy to make an immersive society, and allow for proper interaction between players. Edited March 13, 2020 by ApacheTech

Shingles do allready exist in the game, although i'm not sure you can get all of em outside creativ mode. (which should be no problem for an server admin)
ApacheTech Posted March 13, 2020 Author Report Posted March 13, 2020 What are the shingles known as in Creative? I can't see anything in the list. Is it a 1.12.8 thing? The server is only available on 1.12.6, so that's the version I'm using atm.
Kaelty Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 ok just checked, there is 4 colors of shingle blocks ingame atm, 2 of those are craftable. You can form shingles out of clay and burn em in the firepit. you can at least view em in the handbook (press H) under "shingle"
ApacheTech Posted March 13, 2020 Author Report Posted March 13, 2020 This kind of shingle... These double sided shop/pub signs are known as shingles.
ApacheTech Posted March 13, 2020 Author Report Posted March 13, 2020 I suppose, more like this... A sign that connects perpendicular to the wall, that you can set a symbol on both sides to show the profession of the building it's attached to.
Kaelty Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 well sorry, shingles are also an skin disease so i think i still picked the better one. As for building Signs, i think there should be a mod with some allready. I don't think they will come soon inside the main game as there is literally heaps and mountains of stuff thats waiting for implementation and "shingles" are probably low priority. In case you didn't know, Vintage Story is for the most part done by 2 people (Tyron doing the programming and Saraty doing the textures) So it takes some time for stuff to get implemented.
ApacheTech Posted March 13, 2020 Author Report Posted March 13, 2020 That's fine. All these things are just stuff that will add huge amounts of immersion to the game for very little expense.

redram Posted March 14, 2020 Report Posted March 14, 2020 Ya, chiseling would be your best method to make a sign like that blacksmith one. It allows you to do pretty intricate custom shapes.
ApacheTech Posted March 15, 2020 Author Report Posted March 15, 2020 Just a sign that attaches perpendicular to the wall would be fine. You could use the symbols from the map markers, or allow Font Awesome or similar to be used.
Kaelty Posted March 15, 2020 Report Posted March 15, 2020 yeah but aside from use on some multiplayer servers there is hardly any demand for it so if you want it you will have to make a mod or find someone who makes one for you. the list of things to be implemented is just that long. That or you use chiseling which is an acceptable alternative although a bit time-consuming.
ApacheTech Posted April 2, 2020 Author Report Posted April 2, 2020 I think you're still misunderstanding what a shingle is. It's like a sign outside a pub that says the name of the pub on both sides of it. Usually kite-sheild shaped. It doesn't only have uses in multiplayer either. If you want to build a really immersive single player world, it would add a huge amount of detail there as well. Any use it has in multiplayer is replicated in single-player. Exactly in the same way that Plaster is a thing. There's no need to build out of anything other than dirt in a single-player game, but the options are there to make it pretty if you want to. Writable Paper, and Writable Books are still my main concern though. They are fast becoming essential.
Jeremy McArthur Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 I want to be able to make book cases and maybe loose books for decoration. 1
ApacheTech Posted April 24, 2020 Author Report Posted April 24, 2020 You can find decorative bookcases in ruins, or buy them from traders, but functional bookcases that act as chests for books would be good. Expanding on this idea, you could easily include: Quill Ink Lectern to display written books for easy reading.
