Dom9789 Posted October 11, 2025 Report Posted October 11, 2025 Hey team, first post. I have a little mountain home built in a LAN game and it seemed perfectly fine and idyllic. But after my first Heavy Temporal Storm, the entire region has become unstable. It is entirely unlivable now and stability never went down like that before. I can tell its the region because if I leave it will tick up instead. Could this be a bug, something I'm overlooking or am I just unlucky.
Professor Dragon Posted October 11, 2025 Report Posted October 11, 2025 Hello @Dom9789, Welcome! My initial thought is that you just didn't notice the Temporal Stability going down when you went into the area. You are seeing the main blue/green gear in the center bottom of the screen spinning left, correct? Next thoughts are: * Do you have mods? If so, disable them ALL and try exiting and re-entering the zone. * What version (exactly) are you on? There may be an issue - but I can't find a similar one in the Issue Tracker after a quick look. You seem to be aware that the way that Temporal Stability SHOULD work is: * Regions in general have a default Temporal Stability level. Once set, this never changes. * Temporal Storms are temporary events, and once gone the level should return to the default. * Rift spawning (calm to apocalyptic) is a different thing to the big gear spinning. This changes frequently. There are similar problems that you are not reporting, which were meant to be addressed in recent releases, such as a Temporal Storm persisting for months. I mention it because it is possible that there is an issue. You'd need to rule out mods first and then post your logs to the Issue Tracker (above) to get help if reporting a potential issue. In any case, besides troubleshooting as above, the most practical thing to do is to resettle in a different region. Professor Dragon. 2

You should make a backup of your world if you're going to do this, because any objects or entities created by those mods will be invalidated. 1

Actually, there is this mod: https://mods.vintagestory.at/chunkstaboverride I'm not sure how well it works and would definitely make a world backup before trying it, but it could be used to "fix" the area so that a move isn't required, if it comes to that. 1 1

Oh! I thought there were just mods to remove surface instability entirely, not a specific spot. That's nice. I'll have to recommend it the next time a new player shows up unhappy because their lovely base turned out to be unstable.

I just know that it seems to offer a solution for surface stability problems, without turning off the mechanic entirely. 2
Dom9789 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Report Posted October 11, 2025 Thanks for commenting! I can confirm that I have no mods and I am on 1.21.4 (stable) I can also confirm that in my house the gear is turning left/anticlockwise. Before I thought it was turning clockwise as I hadn't had an issue before. I only noticed that after the Storm, my TS was not going back up. I have run around and found that the other side of the lake I am settled at, looks to be stable. My guess is that I had just not noticed how unstable it was until the storm. I will still send through my logs just in case though. Thanks for the help Prof. Dragon, Echo Weaver and Lady WYT! 1 1

Minor point. This is not necessary. I have disabled a mod, played in the world with the invalid blocks that mod created, left to reenable the mod and returned to see the proper blocks inplace of the previously invalid block while in vanilla.

I'm sure I've had things messed up by disabling and then reenabling a mod, but I don't know which ones. If there are no problems, you don't have to restore the backup. YMMV.
Maelstrom Posted October 14, 2025 Report Posted October 14, 2025 Other things a mod does may cause problems, but blocks will not.

One other thing I would check is different parts of the structure in question. It's possible you built right on a border area, so part of the house might be stable and part might be...not so much.
