Where to find lime?

So I'm pretty new and have no idea where to get lime. I can see it comes from limestone, chalk, and marble stones; however, WHERE ARE THEY?!? I have wandered vast distances both to the west and east and all there is anywhere is peridotite. Alternatively it looks like borax would do what I need but I also don't know where to find that. All I want is to prep these hides before they go bad. Thanks ahead of time!!

You don't want to look for marble as your source of lime, as it's very rare. If you happen to stumble across a deposit you could use it for lime, but you may want to save it for fancy building given that there are better sources of lime to be had.

Limestone and chalk are fairly common finds, and it's not uncommon to find one of the two alongside bauxite(bright orange rock, you will need this later). Depending on what kind of rock you have around spawn though, you may need to do some traveling in order to find it. The rock layers you want to look for are sedimentary, which are on the surface.

Lime can also be acquired via grinding up seashells; it's certainly not efficient, but it'll do in a pinch and you'll get two lime per shell. You can also sometimes find lime/lime-producing rocks in ruins, and can trade for lime at commodities/survival goods traders.

If you're after lime for leatherworking, you should also keep an eye out for borax(found in sediment rocks). Borax is more efficient for leatherworking, and will be needed later for working meteoric iron and creating steel.

I've had serious trouble finding any sedimentary stones before, and it's always been the translocators that have saved me. Find one, go through and make a ladder straight up. You'll get to know all the stone layers on your way up, and its much more fun to go transponder hunting than it is to wander the land endlessly.

Every time I've needed to find a specific stone type, the translocators have led me right.

Seek out the areas with lots of uplift. It's common to see several layers all standing vertically right next to one another. You don't have to explore it, just look at the first couple escarpments and you can see if it might be worthwhile. Several sedimentary layers, probably worth looking at.

That said, there will be none in peridotite. It's igneous, so there will only be igneous clear down to the mantle. Your best bet is to run in one direction far enough to get out of igneous top layers (basalt is a special case) and into some map regions where limestone and chalk can spawn. I've had to go around 10k to get out of granite, only to later find it was only around 1500 in a different direction.

Thank you, for now this will get me enough lime. I just need to process my few pelts that I have.

WOW that is much farther than I expected. I don't think I have gone that far yet. When I get up the courage I will venture out even farther and hope for chalk or lime!!
