Laholder Posted November 5, 2025 Report Posted November 5, 2025 Right to the point; apparently I'm not the only person who's had this, however in older discussions here about this particular bug, people narrowed it down to armor, or having something in offhand, or the weather. The hungerrate for my character went from default 100% to 120% and I only noticed this after making a set of tailored gambeson. Assuming it was the gambeson, I took off my armor to observe the rate went only from 125, to 120. I've spent the last hour or so trying to troubleshoot what could cause the base increase of 20% I looked through any xskills that add hunger, and unless some stat is hidden, none of them should cause this. I don't have anything in my offhand unless I need it. It's the middle of august, with a daily average of 26 degrees, fully clothed, no armor, and I'm running Clockmaker So I'm at a loss. Needless to say, doesn't feel great to have a whole 20% toll tacked onto my 90 hour character because of ??? and ????? If I could at least know why that would be a huge plus. Fixing it is even better, of course.
Diff Posted November 5, 2025 Report Posted November 5, 2025 23 minutes ago, Laholder said: I don't have anything in my offhand unless I need it. 20% sure sounds like the offhand penalty. What does it change to if you do have something in your offhand? Does it go up or just stay the same? If it stays the same, that'd kinda suggest that the offhand penalty isn't being removed from your character for some reason when you unequip. What's it look like if you start a new world with all your mods enabled? Does it go away if you start a new world with them disabled? 3
Professor Dragon Posted November 5, 2025 Report Posted November 5, 2025 (edited) Hello @Laholder. Good start to "boxing the problem." Let's continue with that. 1) What does this World Configuration command return? Default is 1.0. /worldconfig playerHungerSpeed 2) Create a small size Creative World and test there - same issue? 3) Create a backup. Disable mods if possible. The prime candidate is XSkills, as that impacts the hunger rate. See at least the "Survival" node on this page. But confirm it is/is not a mod. EDIT - A worthy snipe by @Diff Professor Dragon. LadyWYT Posted November 5, 2025 Report Posted November 5, 2025 Yeah I have to agree with @Diff and @Professor Dragon here, it sounds like a standard offhand penalty. A couple of other things to check though: Class: Blackguards have an inherent penalty to hunger rate, so their hunger rate will always read 130% minimum. However, if you are playing with mods that add custom classes, or otherwise alter vanilla classes, it's possible that whatever class you're playing has a similar inherent hunger penalty. Weather: When outside in cold weather, the player's hunger rate will go up by around 20-30%, though it's a change that happens somewhat gradually and not instantly. Going back inside and warming up will cause hunger rate to return to normal. If you've been running around outside in the cold, this might be what's happening. Other Mods: Mods can change a lot, though generally mods that affect hunger rate will be pretty obvious(like, it'll list itself as a hunger mod). Mods that change player classes, as noted previously, are also prime suspects, but there may be other mods(like XSkills) that aren't hunger/class mods themselves but still affect hunger rate for whatever reason. I would check your modlist carefully to see if there's anything that could affect it, but if there's nothing obvious, removing your mods and testing again on a vanilla world should tell you for sure whether a mod is the cause or if there's a problem with the vanilla game.
Solution Laholder Posted November 5, 2025 Author Solution Report Posted November 5, 2025 (edited) Thanks for the suggestions, all! I have solved the glitch, and yes, I can confirm it is a glitch now. You all made a great call bringing up the off-hand penalty as, and I never even thought about this, I swapped tongs in the offhand to see if it'd do anything and lo and behold, the 20% went away. Thanks a whole bunch, I saw some pointers towards this same glitch but didn't see anyone mark the solution as "toggle something in your offhand to reset". The 20% penalty didn't revoke itself on restart or anything of the sort. Only by interacting with the offhand. Now, whether or not this particular glitch should be lumped in with Xskills, or added to the issue tracker? I can't say for sure. Either way, thanks once again for the directions Edited November 5, 2025 by Laholder 3 2

I can't say for sure. I would keep an eye on it and see if you can figure out an exact trigger. If you can figure out the trigger, then you can test it in vanilla to see if the issue persists. If it does, sounds like it's time to report on the issue tracker, but if not then it's definitely the mod(in which case, report via the mod page/Discord/whatever channel the mod author has for bug reports). 1

That being said, it didn't occur on my vanilla test, so it's a modded thing. I have many, many mods on this save, so that'll be a matter of investigation for another time. 1
Mowdan Posted November 9, 2025 Report Posted November 9, 2025 I am a noob with no mods and I had the glitch too. a simple equip with the torch on offhand did make it go back down. No wonder the game seemed so hard...I was really confused thought it was some system I didn't know about and it was to some extent as I did not know off hands did that. Well at least it is gone now but we know it can happen with no mods. The only offhand thing I ever used was a torch also the only thing I really do is die... so yeah maybe when you die and have offhand? I'll test it next time I am about to starve. 1

If it helps, it was happening to me and if it's a mod thing perhaps my list of mods will help you narrow it down. I recently turned off class abilities to make tailored gambeson (first playthrough, chose commoner, and the tailored gambeson was too sweet). I set my world hunger to 25% with no change. Switching a torch into/out of my off hand corrected the problem. For reference I am running 1.21.5 with the following active mods: Armor Recycling Lite 1.0.2 Auto Map Markers 4.0.3 Blood Trail 1.1.1 CommonLib 2.8.0 Item Pickup Notifier 1.7.3 Molds 0.2.1 Panning Machine 1.0.6 Particles Plus 2.3.1 Player Corpse 1.12.0 Projectile Tracker 1.0.5 Prospect Together 21.1.1 Recycling Tools 1.4.4 Simple Bed Respawn 1.0.0 Sonitos Recipe Pin 1.0.1 Status Hud 3.3.1 Alternately if I knew the JSON tag that might set this, I could perform some sort of recursive search for it. Thorfinn Posted November 23, 2025 Report Posted November 23, 2025 Welcome to the forums, @Mowdan Keep plugging away at it. Before long you will be putting something in offhand first thing to get the hunger penalty so you can eat more and get those sweet, sweet bonus HP. 1 2
