Make oak and kapok saplings with a small chance grow to their bigger size

Make oak and kapok saplings with a small chance grow to their bigger size or just make it grow into naturally (not sapling) generated ancient oak tree and kapok as it big version. it really frustrates me as we get only small trees from saplings.

And maples and pines and redwoods and all the rest.

Dunno. I kind of like the fact you have to choose whether to preserve your old growth forest, and seek out more distant timber, or you are able to clear cut and get old growth anyway. Not a huge, "have your cake and eat it too" fan.

I wonder, if you made a tower of logs, then placed a dirt block and seed/sapling at the top, let it grow, then destroyed the dirt and replaced it with a log. Could that possibly allow you to get a taller tree? 🤔

Yeah, I'm kinda in @Thorfinn's camp on this one. The old growth trees aren't something you're going to get without a couple hundred years of growth cycles, hence why they only spawn at world gen and don't grow from the tree seeds that the player plants.

Of course, I wouldn't necessarily mind if the player could grow them either, however, it'd be the kind of thing that should take in-game years to achieve. Otherwise, it's going to be too lucrative given how short the growing cycle is for trees(which while not realistic, is needed for gameplay balance).

My guess is that this would work. I don't see why it wouldn't.

I think this would be a cool way to implement it, if it were to be added: very occasionally, a sapling would 'grow up' into a two tall sapling model, which would then take 100 years to mature and couldn't be uprooted without destroying it. It'd be a satisfying way to mark the age of your world even if you realistically never see one mature. Might also help people appreciate the old growth forests more.
