As of the current release in 1.21.6, players are able to use the chisel to break down incomplete metal work items, scales, plates. chains, lamellae, plaques and rods into bits. Anvils can even be broken down into ingots. I think this feature should be extended to include "raw" tool heads as well. Although previous posters suggested the ability to melt down unused tool heads, I think the chisel is already a "proven" method that would be pretty easy to implement.

I think that would work well. There would have to be an amount of loss to the system, otherwise folks could just keep recycling the same tools forever. But getting back an amount of bits based on how damaged the tool is would be a great fit.

Heck, even getting back half the material would be a big win. And historically it's what a lot of blacksmiths did. Even horseshoes got melted down when they wore out to be turned into new ones.
