Broccoli Clock Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 (edited) My face just now --> It's in the wiki (although not the handbook), so I really should have noticed this long, long ago... https://wiki.vintagestory.at/index.php?title=Chicken#Petting When trying to determine what gen and condition my chickens are in, I've been running around desperately trying to capture them in a corner. This is what my combined chicken area and beehives looks like, with this amount of growth it's a nightmare as they hide everywhere! (click for larger image) For some reason I totally missed the petting option (right click) which causes them to stop moving and allows you to easily check their vitals, instead of running around (...like a headless chicken?) in hopes my cursor hovers over them long enough to read the tool tip before they disappear into the undergrowth and are lost. Edit: out of interest is there any issue with bees and chickens sharing the same area. I have noticed that when the bees do attack once their skep is broken, they will sometimes attack the chickens rather than the scarecrow. I've not noticed any dead chickens because of that, and I'm sure the "stings" aren't powerful enough to damage them more than they do you (which is minimal). The chickens certainly don't seem interested in eating the honey. As a side note, it's a bit of a shame the berry bushes neither count towards flowers (even when flowering) nor do the bees improve the berry cycle (either in amount or speed) simply by being in the same location as bees. LadyWYT Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 If you want to be technical, I think most living entities are marked as "pettable" for some reason, players and NPCs included. That being said, the only creatures that the player seems able to actually pet are livestock animals(tame or wild, it doesn't matter), as a well as a certain little mechanical curiosity in a certain location. The main purpose, I think, aside from being a fun little way to interact with pets, is to calm down ewes/nannies for easier milking. 2

Now you come to mention it, I have a vague recollection of a discussion thread many months back that mentioned petting the goats. As I had no goats, and I've never made any attempts to keep goats, the information just passed me by. However your comment has triggered a deeply buried memory, so thanks for that.
Blaiyze Posted March 2 Report Posted March 2 Any game that allows me to pet the animals is my fav. Just another reason to bloody adore this one!

That's odd, I could have sworn berry flowers count towards bees. It was (iirc) in the same update that berries needed clear line of site above them in order to produce -- I even remember the world I had at the time and I needed to move some of my berries. I can't find mention of either thing in the News articles. I don't feel ambitious enough to look through my old worlds to find it though. Edited March 2 by dakko

I didn't notice the flower count increase but equally I wasn't paying all that much attention. It wouldn't be the first time I've assumed something wrongly in this game! 1

I'm guessing that it is something that was mentioned in discord, back in the day. 5 hours ago, Teh Pizza Lady said: Now I want to check and see if this is the case or not... I'll be curious to hear the results if you do check it out!
