ijkdenem Posted April 1 Report Posted April 1 i wish we had sausages. we got fat and meat but nothing to put it in so i guess we got to wait for that one. we do have salt but no HERBS or SEASONINGS or SPICES. also those would be great to grow in the clay pot or windowboxes or just in the garden plots as usual. 3
ijkdenem Posted April 1 Author Report Posted April 1 one day i will have a better pc to play with my friends and do a proper adventure.

ijkdenem Posted April 2 Author Report Posted April 2 oh wait it is an herb!!! when do they add that stuff?

Found this in what I believe was a BetterRuins ruin. I can do nothing with this herb. It's like the torch cactus or a Childs toy, minus the fact that I can break and pick up easily like harvesting a vegetable or the like. In the new update I believe some herbs and spices have been added to assist in fishing. I haven't played the update yet so im only going off of what ive heard which is rarely trustable information. Given other block games are only capable of making baby faces I hope to see Vintage Story go forward with real immersive play and not feel good childish hogwash. Yes, my opinion. XD Take care buddy. 1

I presume herbs are something that would be added in proper quantities whenever herbalism is added to the game. My guess is that herbalism will either come with the addition of the status effect system, or shortly after the addition of such, since herbalism isn't really useful if it has no effect on the player. 11 minutes ago, OBAMFSpike said: In the new update I believe some herbs and spices have been added to assist in fishing. Licorice and fennel were added as new crops, and are used to make stinkbaits but can also be used as a vegetable in regular cooking. Technically, both are herbs, but they just act like regular crops and vegetables for the most part. They can't be used to make medicine or tea or anything. 2
ijkdenem Posted April 2 Author Report Posted April 2 (edited) if they ever do an alchemist or herbalist or apothecary class then they will NEED to add various herbs and things. a dedicated healer class would be nice. Edited April 2 by ijkdenem bad spelling fixed 1

Facethief Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 I think some herbs have actually been unimplemented in game for a while now. 2
Emeal Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 I think Vintage Story and the Expanded Food Developers need to do a longing embrace. I think its so fun the way they turn food into a minigame.

Rather than just copy/paste the mod into the game, I think vanilla cooking would perhaps be better served by implementing butter churning and a new dough-working mechanic where the player needs to actually roll out pie/pastry crust with a rolling pin and then cut it into the appropriate shape with a knife, similar to how the pottery loop works. Expanded Foods' mixing bowl and saucepan are good ideas, but in some ways they feel a little redundant when it comes to cooking, so it seems like maybe some of the recipes requiring those items could potentially be reworked to require manual kneading to mix or something of that sort. 3

Agreed, We are at the same table then, one might say... Cooking Table... (sorry, not sorry.) But can we agree on what features we think Vintage Story could get from Expanded food / Culinary Artillery? My list is: Cauldron (for huge meal portions), Meathooks, Smoking meats, Bottles and bottle-racks. And Recipes: Boiled Eggs, Berry Bread, Pemmican, Sausages (ofc), Berry Syrup (honey substitute for jam). Smoking all meats and fish. 1

Kerbourgnec Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 (edited) We definitely some expanded butchery. At the very least smoked / salted meat, sausages and dry sausages. For herbs & spices, realistically you could add up to 30% preservation time. It's not much for fresh meals but compounds well for ones stored in sealed crocks. - Cinnamon, mustard, cloves for up to 25-30% - Garlic, oregano, thyme up to 15-20% Depending how complex we want the system to be, some spices are better to preserve fat meals, others work better to make pickles in brine, others are better to preserve salted meat, etc... We could have a whole system of spices added to brines, meals, salting, cheese, spice wines, and different efficiency to all these processes for each spice. Of course most of them would only grow in hot climates. Additionally, we could make things like pepper cancel out part of the spoilage (you can't feel it's terrible if it's drenched in pepper), such that spices would be the only way to reverse some spoilage. ijkdenem Posted Sunday at 07:39 PM Author Report Posted Sunday at 07:39 PM we need a mortar and pestle for grinding herbs. unless it HAS to be done in the quern. but for medicine/seasonings i think the M&P will be the better option if for small amounts. as for the pestle maybe just knap or forge those from granite or something. the mortar could be knapped too or forged too. clay might wear out too fast from all the grinding.

Deaderpan Posted Tuesday at 09:27 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 09:27 PM i think their should be a sandwich mechanic. we can already mix and match ingredients for stews and pies. so we should be able to use a knife to slice bread in half, then add meat or cheese. it would offer the nutrition of the bread and the filling, and would reduce the amount of time until spoilage, but it would save on inventory space and would allow a middle ground between plain bread and pies if the player doesnt have enough fillings to make a full pie
