Slam Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 (edited) It’s just a piece of scrap sheet metal, and while this is roughly 75% the actual size, it’s still too big. It’s roughly 30 inches long stright across. I think I would want to do 20-24 inch’s instead though. This why you done use 5 units of metal lol. if I were to try again should it be more realistic, less blocky, or keep the blockyness Edited April 28 by Slam Added last sentence 7

I'd probably lean towards making it a more realistic replica rather trying to recreate the in-game model exactly. It might be a voxel game, but the fact that it tries to remain rooted in reality means it's easier to take creative liberties when it comes to real world fan crafts. Games like Minecraft you can't really do that since the artstyle is pretty critical to associating the object with the game. 1
Helst_navngivet Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 (edited) i agree with LadyWYT, i would also say you should make it more realistic. it would also come with the benefit of being able to defend yourself from invading creatures of the rustworld, which we all know is a common occurrence in real life, without having it look out of place. (its common atleast where i live, cant sleep with those damn bowtorns in the backyard. And then when i wake up i have to pick out the bone arrows from the wall, and the drifters keep on throwing rocks from the driveway and ugh, im about to disable temporal rifts, i swear!) also, whats the weight on that thing? i imagine it would be around 1-2 kg? (secondly, is it sharp, and if not, are you planning on sharpening it, just for fun?) Edited April 29 by Helst_navngivet reason: added picture of my morning routine (totally real btw) 2

(secondly, is it sharp, and if not, are you planning on sharpening it, just for fun?) I think what I’ll do is what LadyWYT said and probably make it slimmer. I’ll also try to make it more proportional to the handle to fit my hand, so if the handle .3 meters, (about of 1 foot) in the game I’ll shrink it down to fit my hand, then shrink the blade proportional to that, so I will image the blade will be half a meter ish, roughly 2 feet. now sadly I won’t be able to get a piece of metal thick enough, and I’m no blacksmith, so I’ll use the sheet metal flax blade as a guide to crave a flax blade out of foam, or something, and hopefully that’ll trick the drifters until I get a real one. I can also uses the sheet metal flax to create a mold, but don’t have enough metal (nor parents permission, they don’t believe in the rust world invasion) so the fake replica will do for now.

Personally I wouldn't recommend sharpening it beyond the bare minimum for show. When it's purely for display/cosplay purposes, it doesn't need to be sharp and making it so increases risk of accidental injury when handling it. 2
