I'm not sure if I'm just having the worst luck imaginable, if something changed about how basket traps work, or if there is some weird mod issue, but I have spent several in game days and half a stack worth of flax trying to catch a mating pair of chickens, yet they have eluded me every single time. Not even one chicken. I don't have many mods and the only one that changes anything about animals was Butchering, but I removed that when I realized it didn't work with the latest update. This world is only a IRL week old, has only existed in v1.22.2 (stable),  and the Butchering mod was removed before the creation of this world.

Any ideas?

For comparison, I've had multiple successes in 1.22 & 1.22.1 but have not tried in 1.22.2

I always put out multiple traps in the same area... not sure that matters though.

Hope you can trap them.

Sounds like you need to pray to the Holy Virgin Probability to intercede for you on your behalf to RNGesus who was born from the Immaculate Algorithm.

Light a candle, offer your tribute (one more trap, just one more), and you appeal to the Virgin Probability to put in a good word. She who has never been manipulated, never been modded, never been seeded with a fixed value.

Maybe then you'll get a chicken.

Or not.

Things seem to be fickle like that these days.

Consider digging a two block deep by two block wide pit around the basket trap.  This will lure chickens (and other aminals) into the pit of inescapability where you can lay copious traps to capture such cautiously cagey chicken critters.

I have successfully trapped one (1) rooster in a 1.22.2 world, so it is at least possible. But I have, subjectively, also been feeling like the traps aren't working as well. Though I think it may be the area I settled in, or my (lack of) skill positioning the traps.

I second the suggestion to dig a pit, put the traps in it, and chase the chickens into the pit. I normally don't do this because it feels a bit too cheesy, but if you're at your wit's end, it's effective.

Or you could build a half pen, chase them into it, and complete th fence around them.

Do you have any performance mods that restrict entity ticking in distant areas? Or have that set really low in settings (I think there's an option in settings)? I'm speculating here, but in that case, maybe if you put the traps down, then move far away from the traps, maybe the chickens in that area stop moving and hence can't go to or trigger the trap?
