I remember Tyron saying they work on status effect system. Do you think we can expect 1.22.4rc-1 with new features or was it postponed until 1.23?

Big changes will most likely be a major update thing, therefor 1.23. As the armor rework was announced as a "maybe if we do it in time" addition to 1.23 there gotta be a different main focus for that version which could very well be the status effect system. Would also work well with an armor rework, seeing as armor could reasonably have different protection against different wound statuses.

1.22.4+ will only have small additions/fixes/changes like the stuff mentioned above. And I don't think sub-versions ever had a pre-release cycle so 1.22.4-rcX will not be a thing. Also makes little sense from a versioning perspective.

I checked quickly and after 1.19.2/3 stable there was 1.19.4rc-1,rc-2 and rc-3; after 1.20.3stable there was 1.20.4rc-1/2/3/4; after 1.21.0 stable there was even 1.21.1rc-1/2 so actually rcs after stable release are pretty common😅

I do start to consider if 1.22.4 is still a thing or these smaller features are postponed until 1.23? What do you think?

I've recently converted 3 of my friends to VintageStorianis and now we play on vanilla server. I would like to see new procedural dungeon content the most but item/block sounds also sounds(lol) cool.

Partially based on what Tyron has said in the June 2026 dev update, I would expect that we will only see these features in 1.23.

Tagwin has completed the inventory sound project - which adds over 200 new sounds to the players inventory.

Red Ram has also said that "container shapes and textures have been hugely revised and upgraded already for 1.23" (here on GitHub).

I was unable to find any prereleases for minor versions, but release candidates have very much been a thing, even as recently as v1.21.6-rc.1. Version 1.21 overall had 6 RC releases over the course of 1.21.X.

Found the reference for the barrel and crate rework.

In my opinion 3 of the things listed in that post are major changes. I would also suggest 'river and streams' is also a major change regardless of if they got around to doing them or not. Given those major changes, I think is a reasonable to question if its going to be in the next major update. That said, I do not think the developers have mentioned those items again so that leaves me thinking they either shelved the idea and/or got distracted with something they find more interesting at the moment.

Item/Block sounds is just a bunch of sound files and, at best, a small amount of code to trigger is based on a bunch of new lines of JSON for each item. That is a minor change in the grand scheme of things an can be considered "safe", therefor not requiring a major version change.

More procedural dungeon content is just a bunch of files defining new structures that the procedural dungeon generator (already exists and works) can throw together. I don't know how exactly that works but it's reasonable to assume it's akin to Minecraft structures. This is a safe content update and therefor does not require a major version change.

Mechanically powered bellows are a half-finished feature already in the game that just need some code fixes to actually work as intended. Maybe a scope reconsideration for the big old question of "Why though, what does this do different that makes it worth existing". That is a small enough change to reasonably still fit into a minor version change as the big change was already with it being partially introduced in 1.22.

In-Barrel/Create content visuals are just a bunch of textures to add. It is therefor a "safe" content update and does not require a major version change.

Metal tier mechanical power could be, in its easiest/quickest/dirtiest form, just a couple new block declarations copied from the existing wooden parts that use a new texture/re-use metal based textures and have some parameter tweaks. It is therefor a "safe" change and does not require a major version change.

It depends and nothing has been announced, so nobody really knows. Even the developers themselves are probably unsure at this stage.

There may be a minor version release sprung on us with no warning, but best not to expect that. Based on past release schedules we will probably get 1.23 some time this fall or winter but don't take that estimate too seriously either.

Honestly, the most I expect to see with 1.23 is more detailed information later this year, with the initial drop arriving sometime early next year. My reasoning for that is that 1.22 took quite a while to be developed(and technically is still missing a couple of things), and the devs enjoy pushing their limits, so having another full update before the end of the year just doesn't seem likely.

1.24 I have no idea. Maybe by the end of 2027, but that depends on how much is packed into 1.23. 1.24 is supposed to introduce the next story chapter, and story updates are probably the most demanding ones to develop since they often introduce a lot of new lore content and locations in addition to new gameplay mechanics.
