Comfrey is used topically as an herbal remedy or utilized as an organic garden fertilizer. Always apply comfrey externally; never ingest it, as the plant contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that can cause severe liver damage.

For Medicinal/Topical Use (possible use in a new poultice recipe maybe?)
  • What it does: Traditionally applied to soothe muscle aches, sprains, bruises, and osteoarthritis.
  • How to apply: Use it as a ready-made commercial cream or ointment. Apply a thin layer to unbroken skin for a maximum of 10 consecutive days.
  • Homemade poultice: Steep fresh, crushed leaves in hot water, allow them to cool slightly, and wrap the moist foliage in a clean cloth. Apply this to the affected area, but never use it on broken skin or open wounds.

For Garden Use (can be adapted to a barrel for larger yields)
  • Plant feed: Submerge roughly 1 kg of chopped comfrey leaves in 15 liters of water in a covered bucket. Let it steep for 4 to 6 weeks until it creates a nutrient-rich—and strongly smelling—brown liquid fertilizer.
  • Compost activator: Layer fresh or bruised comfrey leaves into your compost heap. The leaves are high in nitrogen and will encourage bacterial action to speed up the composting process.
  • Mulch: Chop the leaves and spread a 5 cm layer on the surface of the soil around heavy-feeding plants or young fruit trees to act as a nutrient-rich, moisture-retaining mulch.
  • P.S. I would LOVE to see more herbs in this game. heck i wanna see an Apothecary or Herbalist class added to the classes. maybe they get bonuses to seed yields and medicine potency on any meds made by their class. maybe even a Pharmacist class to make certain meds others can't.
  • plus has comfrey has flowers so bees will like it too.

Some sort of alchemist or herbalist would make a lot of sense as a new class, as well as potentially fill the role of support/healer since none of the other classes quite offer that. But a new class like this probably shouldn't be able to make medicines that other classes can't, unless perhaps it's a slightly better version of some healing item that already exists. The reason I say that, is that medicine can be a rather important detail depending on what you're trying to treat, and players still need to be able to complete the main challenges in singleplayer. If certain injuries end up essentially requiring a class-exclusive item to heal in any reasonable time, that's not going to be very fun to deal with. Class items tend to be more of a style choice or a "nice to have, but not critical to gameplay" flavor, and most can also be found/traded for in the world.

Based on the provided image, I think the United States FDA should be added alongside this to make sure that no seraphs are poisoned by pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

I bet they already have enough liver damage as-is…

Love the idea, it also reminds me that quite a few existing in-game plants and trees already have the potential to be used for alchemy or medicinal purposes, birch bark for example is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and sometimes is used for topical poultices, poppies acting as natural sedatives, etc... All of these would expand the use of trees, flowers, and non-crop plants which at the moment aside from beekeeping (and on occasion dye-making or poultices) and, for trees, a way of getting wood, serve more aesthetic purposes or very niche-use situations

alchemist or herbalist

What are your thoughts on making the class have exclusive buff recipes ? Similar to what you would find in the current Alchemy mod (https://mods.vintagestory.at/alchemy) where it gives you nice but non-essential speed / damage / healing buffs ? If the class gets added i could think of three ways to make them feel distinct :

- either they are the only ones able to craft the buffs

- they're the only ones able to make a sort of "alchemy station" that can, once created, be used by all players to make the buffs
- they get some type of "material cost reduction" to all alchemy recipes and / or an alchemy material harvest bonus

I think the third option is probably the best one in terms of fairness, but i do like the first one because it gives you a reason to bring them along despite being weaker and gives them a more active role in actually "supporting" their team.

hence why i said MEDICINE and FERTILIZER not FOOD. also its toxic if you eat a lot not if you eat sparingly.

honestly if you are doing a ROLEPLAYING SERVER then yes class exclusive makes sense BUT if just normal MULTIPLAYER then no cuz then you might screw yourself out of things you could really need to nave fun or need to survive.

its just a thought but still they would have been around in that time period so its not farfetched or lore inaccurate to have those classes show up at SOME point in the future.

"FDA" stands for Food and Drug Administration, and it regulates both medicine and food. Fertilizer not so much, but it is indirectly involved in how fertilizer can be used. What you're thinking of might be the USDA(United States Department of Agriculture), which is involved with foodstuffs and agriculture specifically.

That being said, I'm also pretty sure that @Facethief was just making a funny.

the youtube video i watched went thru the steps on how to make the fertilizer 2 ways. a liquid and a compost. composts in like 48 hours but the liquid takes around i think 4 weeks or so to get the stinky brown good juice. tho probably less if you blend the leaves first or at least mince them a bit.
