Whenever I mark a mine on my map I put every ore I come across in the name (f.e.: L1:Medium Poor Cassiterite;L2: Huge Medium Magnetite), however this makes the names very long and so I thought it would be much better if there was an actual description to put this into.

But wouldn't adding a description make it even longer? How long of a desciption are you wanting to add to things?

Personally msot my markers are color coded so I can see what they are at a glance

It's mainly that the name field doesn't properly fit long names while typing them tbh, the description would either show up when hovering over the marker but smaller and below the title or only show up when you click the marker.

I also colour code my markers but often when mining I find addition ores, and I don't have a separate colour for an iron mine where I also found brown coal at the top.

Hmmm I see, yeah I suppose that could be usefull

Well for now atleast just in case you didn't know, on the right side of your map you can filter the areas you prospected by specific ores found, It's not exactly what you're looking for but it might help. You could filter for hematite for example and all the prospecting dots that didn't have any hematite will dissapear and their color will also ajust autimatically to be accurate only to the reading of that specific ore, so you could more easily find the ones you're looking for!

I like the idea of a description when you click the marker. Gives the ability for longer descriptions without completely blocking the map on hover.

That said, I too both color code my waypoints and name them like what's there but in shorter form; so I may have a propick icon (for general area rockstrata readings) that is dark gray (because slate is the first layer) named "Slate - Conglomerate - Basalt"
