CzBuCHi Posted yesterday at 10:42 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:42 AM My house interior is 11x9x3 blocks, i have 3 oil lamps in there, but still getting 'visitors' ... i thought enemies do not spawn in light areas ...
Streetwind Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM Oil lamps are poor light sources, I'm afraid. Noticeably worse than torches, even. The only reason you'd ever make them is because they do not burn out like torches do. They are only bright enough to stop spawns in a small radius around them. For lighting up entire rooms, you'll want lanterns. If you can't make lanterns yet, go back to using torches. 1

I just watched Yerik's 1 year world tour and he was having monsters spawn in his barn, he chiseled all the floor blocks and said it stopped the spawns. I haven't tried it yet, but maybe chiseled blocks is a thing?
OBAMFSpike Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Just use more oil lamps if you are still early game. I love using the oil lamps in my gardens as they submerge in water quite nicely and take up little room. If you dont have access to lanterns yet then torches are your next best bet. And you can line the walls with them too although it's a real bummer they burn out. Thats why the oil lamps en masse might do you justice. The cool thing about Vintage Story in my opinion is that there is no right or wrong way to do things. Perspective and interpretation are powerful in this game. Have fun!

However, mobs will not spawn on surfaces that aren't flush with full block levels. For example, farmland and path blocks are 1-2 pixels below full block height. Creatures will not spawn on that. So if you chiseled your entire floor like that, it should prevent spawns. Downside: you can no longer put stuff on your floor. No ground storage, no carpets or bear pelts, no leaning things against a wall. Wherever you put furniture, you'll have a gap, unless you manually fill it again.

Yeah I'm aware of all that, I just seen his video and didn't know if something changed and it was actual thing or not cause his blocks did not look like they had anything removed. Personally, I do not have monsters roaming my world, they are confined to the caves and ruins.
SnapJelly Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago (edited) I agree with everyone else in that it's probably just too dark, 3 oil lamps doesn't seem like enough for such a large area. But to be sure you can check by going into: settings - interface - turn on developer mode and turn on extended debug info. Then press ctrl f3 and on the right of your screen you can see the light values. The numbers allll the way to the right in this image are the light values, they need to be 8 or higher to prevent monster spawning Edited 18 hours ago by SnapJelly spelling mistake
