MeloNeon Posted September 25 Report Posted September 25 Hey! New player here who has sunk an unhealthy amount of time into this game already. I've been LOVING VS overall, but the local surface Temporal Stability patches have been annoying me. I've already moved twice so far, once because I found this lovely little valley near a trader after I had already been living out of my starter dirt hut long enough to get my first pickaxe, and another time because that valley turned out to not have any medium or higher quality soil for about a 600 blocks in any direction, and I found an even nicer area while looking for better soil. Surprise surprise, the new spot has insanely high instability, and even all the good spots are surrounded by it on all sides. Complaining aside, what does disabling the Temporal Stability setting for a world effect? Do Storms still happen? Is the Underground still unstable? Does the stability meter still function, or is every single aspect about it disabled? Stuff like that. I really like the eldritch horror aspects of the game, and I do like the concept of a local sanity meter that depletes during hard events or deep underground, but it would be a bit sad if I have to either put up with surface instability patches or disable the feature outright. I did have the idea to disable Temporal Stability before world creation, then re-enable it after. Would that stop surface patches from generating, but still let me keep the underground instability and storms? It would require me starting a new world, and might not even work, so I figured I'd ask first. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!
Rainbow Fresh Posted September 25 Report Posted September 25 Disabling temporal stability effectively removes your gear at the bottom (I think it just is always empty without consequences?). Everything else still works. Temporal Rifts spawning and spawning monsters is a different setting. Temporal Storms is a different setting. Fairly sure technically, under the hood, the world remains temporally (un)stable but you would just not know as your only indicator for such no longer exists.

There's currently no way to achieve the results you're after in the vanilla game, since disabling temporal stability will disable it for the entire world, not just portions of it. There is, however, at least one mod that should be useful to achieving the result you're after: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/49887 11 hours ago, MeloNeon said: It would require me starting a new world, and might not even work, so I figured I'd ask first. For what it's worth, most game settings, including temporal stability, can be changed after world creation, either by using a console command or simply clicking the pencil icon next to the world name and opening the Customize tab. Mods are a different matter, as some require a new world in order for them to take effect, and some cannot be uninstalled without breaking a world. Most, however, can be installed/uninstalled at will mid-playthrough, and the one I linked above seems to be one such mod. It's still a good idea to make a backup of your world before making big changes though, since things can go wrong.

I wasn't sure if those were sub-settings for Temporal Stability or not, it was a bit unclear in the menu. 2 hours ago, LadyWYT said: Welcome to the game and forums! That's a shame, I was hoping to keep my first playthrough mod-free. If the instability around my base proves to be too frustrating still, I can always add it later. I found the customize tab (used it to bump up tool durability because I was tired of my flint tools breaking every 5 seconds lol), but it is a shame that some world gen features can't be tweaked after generation. I'd love to be able to lower the polar-equator distance if chunks haven't been generated that far out yet. but alas, 100k blocks it is... Thanks for the help, both of you!
