DArkHekRoMaNT Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 If it is possible to use class: "betterstairs:blockbstairs" or something similar, then you can try to implement it as a patch. But you will have to remap vanilla stairs.
DArkHekRoMaNT Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 Bad. No. It can break structures. Okey. You can change class for vanilla stairs, but place your mod stairs. Also it drop as vanilla stairs
Spear and Fang Posted November 24, 2020 Author Report Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) I made a disturbing amount of changes to the 7 json stair blocks as well. It would be one heck of a patch! Edited November 24, 2020 by Spear and Fang
xCoiotex Posted November 25, 2020 Report Posted November 25, 2020 does this mod conflicts with more variants?

Spear and Fang Posted November 25, 2020 Author Report Posted November 25, 2020 Exactly. Thanks @DArkHekRoMaNT
l33tmaan Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 Can these stairs be placed, uh... like an L-shape from above instead of from the side? I hope that makes sense.

I hope that makes sense. Ha! I'm not sure if I understand the question - and I barely understand the logic. Maybe this picture helps... Near the end of the logic, I focus on what's already sitting in the two spots closest to you that are adjacent to where you are about to place the block. If there's an upside down regular stair placed FIRST (in either or both of those spots), and the angle between where you're standing and the target spot is even remotely close to 45 degrees) it will put an outside corner next to it (whether you're above or below). You would still have to target the top half of a block to flip the outside corner upside down (like where my crosshairs are pointing). Maybe that's the answer you're looking for? l33tmaan Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 No, I meant like this. Can stairs even do this in vanilla?? https://i.redd.it/0zck2r2axvd31.jpg
Spear and Fang Posted November 26, 2020 Author Report Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) I'm almost certain that stairs can't do that in Vanilla. Is that even a vanilla minecraft thing? It's easy to rotate a stair like that in my code, but I can't wrap my brain around how I'd decide that the block needs to be rotated like that based on your picture. l33tmaan Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 I... don't know. I haven't played minecraft in years, and I haven't played vanilla minecraft in even more years than that.
Spear and Fang Posted November 26, 2020 Author Report Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) I'll have to give it some thought. It might be something for the next release if I can come up with a strategy for implementing it. I might have to dust off my copy of minecraft. Edited November 26, 2020 by Spear and Fang
l33tmaan Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 I just went and checked and it was definitely something from Carpenter's Blocks, AKA one of the best minecraft mods ever that I always had in my mod list. No wonder I thought it was vanilla. 1

I'd rather not add yet another set of blocks and recipes if that's what you mean, although that was my initial thought too. Perhaps getting sneak click involved would be a more eloquent solution.
l33tmaan Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 I'll take whatever you can give me because stairs like that are vital to making stone forts look right, IMO. Really, any functionality from Carpenter's Blocks is highly welcome. 1

Not Carpenter's Blocks by any means, but improved logic (I can understand it now!) and an auto rotate and sneak click to rotate to flip regular stairs on their side. Also fixed a bug. Added another video because it's a little confusing! 1
Cryptis Midnight Posted December 8, 2020 Report Posted December 8, 2020 Is there any difference in the end results between doing this and chiseling the blocks.

Oh you busted me. I've never chiseled anything in Vintage Story. I suspect that using these dynamically adjusting stairs would get things done a lot quicker though... 1
l33tmaan Posted December 9, 2020 Report Posted December 9, 2020 YOU'VE NEVER CHISELED ANYTHING? Wow, you're missing out! 1
Fluffems Posted December 16, 2020 Report Posted December 16, 2020 (edited) When saving and exiting the game in single player 1.14.2 upon re-entry to the game stairs placed from better stairs are randomly rotated to a different orientation, Has any one else had this issue? I think it has something to do with snowfall as I did not have this problem unto it started to snow. Edited December 16, 2020 by Fluffems
Spear and Fang Posted December 16, 2020 Author Report Posted December 16, 2020 @FluffemsWell that's embarrassing! Yes, it's the snow that did that. I'll work on an updated version right now and should have it for you tonight. Don't try and fix them in game, the update should just sort that out for you. In hindsight I really should have tested them in snow too. I might have to rename the mod to "Worser Stairs".
Fluffems Posted December 16, 2020 Report Posted December 16, 2020 Thanks! Thankfully I didn't have a lot ATM I did notice though that when I tried to clear the snow off the block it would break the stairs and drop the block but I could clear the snow and by placing a block on top of the stairs and they would revert to their original position. PS. Thank you for the mod it has saved me a lot of chisel time :3
Spear and Fang Posted December 16, 2020 Author Report Posted December 16, 2020 @Fluffems New version up. Thanks for reporting the issue(s), it's always much appreciated! I tested it thoroughly after updating it so you *should* be good to go. 1
