Can't Take Milk With Bowl

According to the wiki, we should be able to take milk from a bucket with a bowl and drink it. However, I can't take milk from a bucket (or barrel) with a bowl. It just shows an endless animation like it's trying to do something but nothing happens. I also don't seem to be able to drink it from the bucket directly. So milk is currently useless until I get to the point where I have pickled vegetables to turn it into cheese.
