RobinHood Posted March 26, 2021 Report Posted March 26, 2021 (edited) helo, I'm nearby 13 months at my base, its the 9th may - and still I see some iceblocks, I have 20°C, temperate climzone, last very cold weather was in march. I didn't have seen iceblocks a year before at beginning of 1st may. In April I did see here and there some snowfields - and it was warm also. Edited March 26, 2021 by RobinHood
Streetwind Posted March 26, 2021 Report Posted March 26, 2021 Lake ice is not part of the snow accumulation system that is tied to the calendar and can fast-forward when a previously unloaded chunk is loaded again. As a result, if a lake froze over in winter, and then stays out of loading range for half a year, it'll only start melting once you come back to it. And yes, I have also found that the melting is sometimes a bit slow.

I'm sure they will though. Seems awfully out of place to come back to a frozen lake and slide around in the middle of a hot summer day.
Kevin Eric Snell Posted January 14, 2025 Report Posted January 14, 2025 Eh.... five years in, my experience is there's nothing related to loaded or unloaded chunks. A frozen-over lake, even right next to my base, will remain mostly frozen, forever, unless I actively punch out the ice blocks. Maybe a handful will thaw out on their own.... 30 to 40% maybe. Otherwise it'll just be stuck that way all spring, all summer, all autumn. The snow system works great. The lake ice.... is just driving me nuts. Needs fixing badly. Is there a mod that deals with this? 1
CookiePsycho Posted July 12, 2025 Report Posted July 12, 2025 Same question, I saw a mod that changes lake ice into iceblocks thay can be cut and used for building Maybe there is a way to fix this forever frozen water bug
samogitia Posted September 14, 2025 Report Posted September 14, 2025 https://mods.vintagestory.at/waterweathersimulationredux this mod should potentialy fix it.
