Burn-out...

Hey,

after flying for a hour in every direction from our multiplayer-survival-seed I am close to burn out on this game.
My friends already stopped playing because the game is grindy after a few days playing and usually you have to spend searching for hours over hours for everything.

I played further nevertheless, reached the tin-bronze age quite early and wanted to take the next step after iron wasnt a problem any longer: steelmaking and spend nearly 15 hours running and searching. Not to mention the food and gear I had to make. Creative on the seed showed: No limestone/chalk/bauxit anywhere near 5k blocks from our base. I am very discouraged and just sad about all the progress I will loose because we need a new seed. Without mods like l33tmans "Expanded foods" I would have lost interest way before to be honest.

That turned out quite negtive so at the end: I love the game! It offered me a lot of fun and new things to fiddle with but the grind... the grind is real.

i felt frustrated by the grind as well (especially when doing a multiplayer game where we were always trying to improve our base and our gear and stockpile food and make charcoal and on and on and on), but i've changed my playstyle significantly and find it a lot more enjoyable now. i'm not always trying to improve or build or gather resources. i often just take a few days to pick a direction and start walking (which works best if your spawn point is near your house and you keep your gear after dying, because then there's no long trek back and you can just jump down a mine when you want to go home again). just like, enjoy the game and the scenery. the grind is a lot less daunting when you can go explore the coast for a week or two once you're halfway done with crafting 300 shingle blocks or whatever.

I concur with goaliemagics.  Make the game enjoyable for you.  It's not cheating if you select the customization options that make the game fun.  I have keep inventory on, passive monsters (wolves and drifters), higher rates of surface copper and tin and no temporal storms and loving the game (even the grind).  It's my first play through while I get accustomed to the grind and intend on turning on some of those options (namely temporal storms and monster agro).   The point is customize the game to suit your enjoyment level and disregard what other's might say about it.

Yeah I guess a new seed/world will be the way to go... Or altering the options maybe. As I said, I love the game but seeing how one by one my friends stopped playing was just sad.

I guess I will make a singleplayer world, start creative until I get to the point I reached and then go survival again. (And that way I can keep on harrassing l33tmaans and his great mod :D)

Thank you both.

I don't want to change or decrease the grind. I hoping more variety in the game will make it feel less grindy. If you can't find limestone, perhaps crafting other stuff, exploring new biomes and so on will fill your game until you stumble upon those limestone deposits. And i can wait until then, think the game is good enough anyway.

But sure, if its optional i don't mind how other players want to play the game.
