ModDB Improvements

Recommended Posts

Hello all!
I'm looking for mod database (modDB) improvement suggestions and feedback. Mostly quality of life (QoL) improvements and any weirdness. I'm not looking for any suggestions about ratings and how mods should show up on the this page (https://mods.vintagestory.at/). Your participation is greatly appreciated and I can't wait to see what you all post!

  2. Ability to add the mod to bookmarks
  3. Filter mods on sides (server/client/both) or/and Indicate only client/server mods on it card
  4. Automatically add game version tags from the minimum modinfo game version to the latest game version. Maybe clear it if the author is editing version tags.
  5. Screenshot size error is shown separately (sometimes ratio, sometimes size) and cropped
  6. The ability to subscribe to the mod to be notified of new versions and comments

I would also like some way to "subscribe to" or "favorite" or "mark" certain mods I am interested in. Ideally as a separate thing from actually installing them (once installing directly from the modDB is implemented).

Reason being, when I browse mods I may come across one that looks interesting, and I think, yeah, I'll totally try that one in my next world. But as you may know, you can play for hundreds of hours in the same world, and then there's things like IRL commitments and waiting for new updates and such that delay you starting a new world. Also, my memory is literally a sieve wielded by a hamster hopped up on caffeine. And so, by the time I finally get around to setting up a new world, I may have completely forgotten about more than a dozen interesting-looking mods.

It would be great if the modDB website could help me remember! :)

The reason to keep it separate from whichever method might be chosen to import into the game client is because I might be interested in mods that are mutually exclusive because they do the same thing in different ways, such as texture packs, or because they are incompatible due to trying to edit the same behavior/entity. And, perhaps even more importantly: so that a mod I am trying to earmark for the next playthrough doesn't get auto-imported into my current one.

I would love to see:

* the ability to add co-authors and give them righs to update mods (multiple people develop our mods, but only I can update/upload them)
* a classical "Upload a file" selector dialog from the browser, instead of the drag-and-drop. This always makes me open a graphical file browser (which I never use), drop my fullscreen browser window and then dragdrop a file and hope it was the right one.
* an easy way to sort screenshots to the order you want them be displayed in
* an easier/better way to see which image will appear as the first image when users view the mod list
* a way for someone to create "mod collections" by maintaining a list of mods and give them a name. Users could then download the mods in a ZIP file, but the individual mod download counters would still be updated. Right now most of the servers make their own mod bundles and just throw them on discord, meaning the ModDB is completely bypassed for most users.

Thank you for working on the ModDB - it's already awesome :)
