ieatchickens Posted January 15, 2022 Report Posted January 15, 2022 (edited) Hi, I bought the game yesterday and spent a lot of time trying to fix constant stuttering (regardless of the in-game settings, even the pathetic preset). Looked everywhere, tried everything and almost gave up but I just found a working combo that has completely eleminated the issue: Â In-Game settings: Max FPS: unlimited V-Sync: off Nvidia Control Panel: Low latency mode: Ultra - default is off. V-Sync: Fast Sync - regular and adaptive didn't work. Off should work too if you don't have fast sync in the options but the screen will tear. FPS limit: 150 - double the refresh rate of my monitor - for fast sync to work and to reduce the GPU usage. Threaded optimization: off - default is auto. I still had some stuttering with it set to auto. Turning it off solved the issue for some reason. Â Boom. No more stuttering, high preset. Tested the game for a few minutes in different biomes and there was only one very minor stutter when a new chunk was loading. The FPS graph is almost completely flat now, no huge spikes. I'm so happy, I can finally play this game without being annoyed every ten seconds. Â I hope it might be useful to someone. Â PC specs for reference: MB: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS, latest BIOS CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X GPU: Asus TUF GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming OC, latest drivers RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 64 GB 3000MHz SSD: Adata XPG SX8200 Pro PSU: Corsair RMx 750W OS: Windows 10 Pro, 21H2 Edited January 15, 2022 by ieatchickens 19 2 5
Aledark Posted January 15, 2022 Report Posted January 15, 2022 Yea my settings are essentially very similar to this except i used to keep threaded optimization auto/on.
KelpyFknG Posted February 24, 2024 Report Posted February 24, 2024 man, thank you so much for this. Every 10 goddamn seconds with a 4070 Super/13600K I was getting massive spikes and lagging out for 5-10 seconds. This looks like its solved the issue. Legend!!

Streetwind Posted February 24, 2024 Report Posted February 24, 2024 I think it's just called Radeon Software or Radeon Settings or something similar. But, it doesn't work the same way as the Nvidia Control Panel. Things are named differently, look differently, do different things. It has options that don't exist in the Nvidia Control Panel, and it doesn't have some options that the NCP offers.
StCatharines Posted February 26, 2024 Report Posted February 26, 2024 Thank you! This quick rundown just solved stuttering issues for me as well.
Quiche Posted February 28, 2024 Report Posted February 28, 2024 Bless your socks, this worked a charm. Never had Vintage Story run smoother in months. Thank you!
Streetwind Posted February 28, 2024 Report Posted February 28, 2024 For those who fixed their stuttering with these options, it would be interesting to know if there was a single thing that had a major impact for you - or if it was a combination of small gains. If a single setting had a major impact, that would be a great point for investigation by the dev team. 1
radfast Posted March 11, 2024 Report Posted March 11, 2024 There can be interactions between VSync and G-Sync if your GPU & monitor support G-Sync Useful reading about this on reddit:  2
Marc Böhler Posted March 17, 2024 Report Posted March 17, 2024 Thank you so much, this constant stuttering made the game unplayable. I hope the devs fix this.
reicher_bene Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 Thanks for the tips! For me the solution was even more simple, so I thought it might be nice to share it here: I had a similar issue with lagspikes, where they would appear constantly every 5 seconds or so. After troubleshooting for a while, the problem was a wireless usb dongle for my keyboard - unplugged it and the lagspikes were gone! So make sure to check that option as well if you are encountering similiar behaviour.
Dea Geib Posted October 16, 2024 Report Posted October 16, 2024 omg i can actually play the game now, you are awesome
BunNicky Posted February 18, 2025 Report Posted February 18, 2025 Was having troubles with stuttering and crashing playing modded vintage story in 1.20.3. Followed the steps and the stuttering was almost completely fixed it only happened once after playing for an hour whereas it would happen up to 20 or 30 times within a hour before. The game also didn't crash during that one stutter like it would do sometimes while stuttering. My pc specs are also lower than the main topics but it still didn't kill my pc gpu so I think this is if not a solid fix then it is a good band aid.
Punica Posted February 27, 2025 Report Posted February 27, 2025 (edited) Thank you, this helped a little. But what made it for me was running it Maximized Borderless instead of Fullscreen. I don't have a g-sync or a display with any vrr at all, but my GPU supports it so I guess I should upgrade to a new display with that. Edited February 27, 2025 by Punica
naf Posted April 18, 2025 Report Posted April 18, 2025 Didnt help me sadly. Stutters are reduced at very very low render distances but I can run 850 at 150 fps, but there are constant drops to 30 even when standing still... I have an rtx 3070 and a 20 Thread Intel Xeon W 2255
THOUGHTL355 Posted April 19, 2025 Report Posted April 19, 2025 These settings work well, though I did still have a microstutter. Fixed that issue by changing the in-game V-Sync option to On+Sleep. 1
Vulp0d Posted May 7, 2025 Report Posted May 7, 2025 Is there anything like this that I can do on Linux?

Unfortunately it's not helpful, I'll be running more tests as I'm beginning to think this may be related to my old hardware.
Xaidi Posted May 12, 2025 Report Posted May 12, 2025 (edited) Thank you very much! I still have stuttering, but it is MUCH MORE manageable now. Here my specs if someone wandering: i5 9500 16gb (8 + 8 ) 2600 RTX 4060 Ti Game installed on KINGSTON SA400S37240G (the same disk as Windows) Â Edited May 12, 2025 by Xaidi
Kenji Lixzanio Posted June 2, 2025 Report Posted June 2, 2025 This just boosted back my in-game graphics. I can see the details deeply again. Thank you homie.
Technomancer Posted July 3, 2025 Report Posted July 3, 2025 (edited) Download nVidiaProfileInstector, go to Section 5, rBar, enable it! Then set rBar Intel CPU Eclusion to 1, rBar Options to 1, rBar Size Limit to 40000000 For some reason, nVidia in their "infinite wisdom" actually turned OFF BAR by default, even when it says it is on. Stutter gone, +20-30 fps in most game. DOH! Edited July 3, 2025 by Technomancer 1 1
Guimoute Posted July 6, 2025 Report Posted July 6, 2025 Â That's a nice way to turn your GPU into a toaster, OP.Â
