    You can also /wgen regen X , where x is a radius of chunks around you. It completely regens the world in those chunks, but if you aren't near your base or anything you care about, its fine.

    You can store stuff in their chests safely on a single player game. Their carts are protected by land claim so you can't take anything, but it's free storage early on.

    Listen to idiomcritter, Iron plate armor is over preparing. Healing is VERY important when fighting the Mongolian hoard as they deal death by a thousand cuts. Scale or chain will serve you way better and bring healing items. Good luck, the first story location is nice.

    It's the "serverconfig.json" file in the vintagestoryData folder. You can also change these manually when you load into the world and then do a /wgen regen X , where X is a chunk radius around you. These are the lines that control landcover. These are my settings for continents with oceans around them. It sort of works.     Hard to say since that is a pretty generic message when it refuses a connection. Is the sever on your personal network?

    I question that 14 day despawn as well. Until I kill the bear or wolves they are always there in my experience.

    I rarely ever use linen sacks. Certain special scenarios like "snowball earth" where there are no oak trees you pretty much need to use them until you can get the new hardened leather backpacks. Normal playthroughs I usually find 1 linen sack in a ruin and wait for leather backpacks.

    I would try a fresh install of the game. I have 3 installations of the game running on my home server. They are named vs1, vs2 and vs4. Vs3 worked for about a week and I've never been able to connect to it outside my network ever again. I had to reinstall and move the saved file to install vs4. Did they update the sever configuration file in the new update? Even if they didn't check to make sure everything matches your port settings.

    If its just you and a couple buddies, just jump into creative mode and give them a temporal gear. No reason to get complicated.

    I'll start an answer since no one else has commented yet. The story locations are set when you generate the world as far as i know. So they will be back closer to the original spawn. Easy way to confirm is to generate another single player world and change spawn then go in to creative mode and load in a treasure hunter trader and give him the tin bronze pickaxe. Can you move them? Maybe but I would need to research that. It's probably more trouble than its worth.

    This is the reason I won't play wilderness survival. I'm done making manual maps. Been there done that in the years before in game maps were a thing. Yes im old... But I would play if maps were something you could make in game and a compass. That would be 2 inventory slots you would have to decide if it was worth carrying or not.

    I doubt they will leave it alone forever, but for the content that exists today it is probably fine except the hitboxes as mentioned. Maybe alchemy will add buffs, debuffs, etc... which will change combat. I can't wait for some new eldritch horror tossing poison potions at me from 40 blocks away with pin point accuracy that do 5 hp/s damage. Seriously though its something to look forward too.

    My son sends me to the mines and he turns my ore into useless items and then complains why I don't make him armor. Children.....

    My sin will always be the HUD clock mod of some sort. I can't be bothered to press C to see the temporal weather or time. I never notice the vannila temporal storm warning either. I add and remove other mods but that is on a playthrough by playthrough basis to add something different.

    I personally like the ruined windmill and few house POI from the better ruins mod. It's all wood and looks like some recent village that failed. Something like that would be great in vannila to make the world feel lived in.

    There was at least one, and the poor person was wearing plate as well trying to heal themselves with horsetail poultices.

    If you wear plate armor then the RA and the boss fight will suck. Short term fights plate is great, but long fights you will struggle bus to heal yourself. . I love the RA personally, but that's my opinion. I've done it over and over in nothing but cloth armor and copper spears for the boss and a sword and shield as back up for the other trash if it gets close.

    Digging straight down is a valid way to find deep copper. Surface copper nuggets can be hidden sometimes in the brush and grass.

    I don't bother with milk or fruit trees either. Although my son did manage to make cheese one time on one of my worlds but using the aforementioned techniques of putting them in smaller pins to milk them. He was very persistent.

    Brown coal is typically easy to get so the bloomey is interesting but not for me.

    I had no clue you could use a bloomery. I just use the firepit method with a stack of brown coal. I go about my business and check on it from time to time. I guess if I was fuel poor or in a rush I could min max it but that hasn't been an issue.

    Rifts will disappear with time.
