Cap'n 'Temporal Storm' Crunch - Oops All Bowtorns
Zane Mordien replied to nottheman686's topic in Discussion
I've read other posts about it being random, but every storm I've seen is exactly the same. I guess the RNG gods hate me because I always get tons of bowtorns in storms. As soon as I stick my head out I get shot at 100 times. I saw someone else post that they wait for a storm that is mostly drifters and fight that storm, but again I haven't seen that storm yet. -
At what point do you stop looking for a halite deposit?
Zane Mordien replied to Chuckerton's topic in Discussion
Same as others, I just buy it. I don't consider it worth my time. Maybe during the winter I will look for it to kill time. -
1.20 clearly upped the BEAR SPAWN count and it's too much
Zane Mordien replied to Devkrin's topic in Suggestions
I've been playing 2 worlds since 1.20 and I haven't noticed an increase. Some areas are just worse IMO. The RNG sometimes takes a crap on you. If it is annoying you there is a mod that halves the bear spawns. I use it sometimes when I get fed up with them. I can kill them but honestly sometimes I get tired of running into them constantly and having to waste my time getting rid of them. -

Hard pass for me for 2 & 3. The storms are already a mechanic that most people dislike and avoid so double and tripling down on making them more annoying seems like a bad idea, but heck maybe they will love the idea and implement it. Now if you are talking about "special" storms that are part of the storyline progression that you trigger, those are all cool ideas. A harder storm that is a reaction to some in game trigger would fit and be more like a boss fight.

No freeloaders! Besides what Thorfinn said, give everyone some spears and tell them to start hunting. The pigs, moose and big horn are somewhat easier to hunt since they don't run as much. Some good hunting parties should come back with lots of meat that will help solve the problem and they will kill wolves at the same time for some meat to snack on. I've survived in snow ball earth just hunting moose, bears and wolves so it's not that hard.

Anybody else finding the Temporal Storms too difficult?
Zane Mordien replied to Mourning Wood's topic in Discussion
Haha, that's exactly how I feel when I open my chest that is full of them. Why do I collect these anyway? -

Anybody else finding the Temporal Storms too difficult?

I'm not trying to poo on people building ways to deal with it, which is why I didn't post on that thread and take away from the conversation. Yes, I'm annoyed, but I really do want to understand what is the intention of the making the storms that hard? To stop people from farming them for temporal gears or those ever so useful Junkas... I mean Jonas parts? I fought the storms to pass the time before really. Jonas parts: No mater how many Jonas parts I got, I never had enough to build anything even with the easier storms. Was I missing something? Temporal Gears: You definitely could get too many after fighting several storms, but so what? What can you do with them really besides repair translocators? I haven't done the new stuff in 1.20 so is there something super useful that is a spoiler? I'd accept that as a better reason. Otherwise so what you can translocate all over the place. While it's fun to do, it doesn't really help you that much. It just let's you explore more area of the map and now with the elk it's easier to ride there than try out 10 translocators to finally find one that goes the direction you want. -

Bumping and old thread, but I just did my next storm and I'm really not happy with the changes to the storms. Having so many Nightmare shivers and bowtorns is just stupid. It's just forcing people back into cheesing or turning off the temporal storms instead of really risking a fight. Unless they really want us to make these elaborate cheese fighting pits and risk nothing as we stand inside with pit kilns killing the mobs or we spear them from our little safe fighting spots. I do like the idea of the new mobs in the storm if there weren't so many. It would add spice to the fight and more risk and not just instant death like it is now. -
This happened to me on several days in row as well in the spring.

Is the overtuned cave "darkness" fog a bug or intentional?
Zane Mordien replied to Ketoth's topic in Discussion
I've felt the same thing. I hang torches in my iron mine and I can't see them when I walk not that far away. It's bright enough to not spawn stuff but pitch black when I look back to the entrance. I hope someone makes a mod that removes this new improvement. It's overkill. -
There are some really horrid spawns sometimes. I spawned on a mountain once with a cliff all around and no way off. Just try a few until you find something decent.
-
Oh and good news is you will have plenty of hides!
-
Same as above, normal... NO, but it can happen. I once killed 24+ wolves in one location over 10 game days. I killed the pack of wolves, went inside my starter hut for the night and by morning there was a new pack of wolves in the exact same location just hanging out. I say 24+ because I quit counting. After 2 months they finally stopped spawning in that same spot over and over. It's all RNG so sometimes you have bad luck.

One thing about food, is you can always survive the winter even without a big cellar of food. You just have to hunt all winter. Save this savegame file and come back to it when you are better at the game for a challenge. I just recently started replaying my first playthrough where I quit because I wasn't prepared enough and I've been enjoying the challenge of salvaging the playthrough. Good luck in your new playthrough!

I feel like I've had much better luck finding bees in 1.20. If they changed something that would explain why.
-
You are pretty much out of luck on bees in the snowball earth. The best chance you have is to use the Better Ruins mod. There are bees in at least one of the ruins. Question is do you even have flowers? I tried in snowball earth but I realized there are no flowers anywhere on the map. Not even redtop grass.

The storms are just every 9 days or so. You don't do anything to trigger them. During a storm the light level doesn't stop them from spawning. Congratz on Tin Bronze! -

So do they want us to just build cheese fighting pits instead of fighting out in the open? I really enjoyed the thrill of running and fighting never knowing if a nightmare drifter might spawn on top of me and hit me as I was trying to loot in 1.19 or before. Now I'm back to the fighting pit just killing them without risk. The nightmare bowthorns and shivers are just too much out in the open IMO. Am I wrong? -

It is annoying to go back to cowering and hiding during storms until I get reasonable armor, which is not fast. I wish they would implement something like 7D2D where the mobs in the storm/horde gets harder as time goes on and doesn't start day 1 with ranged attackers. -
I just always have plenty of work to do inside at night.
-
I don't have the seed number memorized, but I have a favorite that spawns in limestone with a nice large sort of flat area completely free of bears and wolves spawn points. Angry pigs are the biggest animal problems. It's my relaxing start seed.

I would also consider not duplicating types of mods unless they are specifically supposed to work together. Like multiple food mods or crafting mods. Looks like you have several things going on there that would conflict, but I didn't go look them up to see if they work together
