  1. I've said it on here a few times before, but as someone who used to have a few chickens, they were always fun to hold Some chickens really enjoy being held
  2. Here's what I'm talking about btw, which I'm now thinking might be a side effect of the 1.20 changes. Here is the roof of my soon-to-be steel room; you can see the top of one that is level with the surrounding ground. I dug out this 15x15 pit (13x13 room with walls) by starting at the very top and worked my way down. This caused no landslide issues, nor any cave-ins, as one would expect. However, when placing my pine planks along the walls, they keep triggering cave-ins in various areas. One such is here in the above photo, as well as in the next two. These stone blocks? Rose out of the dirt as a resulting cave-in. This was flat dirt. This is the room next to my steel making room. These rocks phased through the planks and fell into here from that same cave-in. Anyways, it's (literally) been an uphill battle in expanding this house, and now that you've made this thread I've come to realize all my issues HAVE been post-1.20
  3. A line from 1.20.0 update devlog: Now me personally, I haven't noticed a difference between 1.19 caving and 1.20 caving, other than the size diameter being larger. Course, all my cave-ins revolve around expanding my underground forest house, so I'm always fighting an uphill battle
  4. This is exactly how I was picturing it A few pieces of bamboo, and a thing of twine, and you have a sound block that can only be placed on the underside of blocks. We already have the sway mechanics; crops, flowers, and leaves all do that. And since there are distinct types of wind speeds, then all that needs done are different chime sounds to match those values
  5. General answer is yes, it is safe to update between small releases without updating mods. Small updates (such as 1.20.x to 1.20.x) shouldn't break mods. I personally only update my mods on major releases, such as between 1.19 and 1.20. The mods I installed on 1.20.0 are still working fine with 1.20.7. Not to say it can't happen. I'm sure it could, but it's rather unlikely.
  6. I used an old PC to host mine. Intel i5 second gen processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 160GB Hard Drive, and it handled three people just fine They DID have to get my IP address to connect to it, so I don't recommend this method for public hosting with strangers.
  7. Actually, if no one is online, the world clock is paused From what I remember of my short-lived, self-hosted 1.16 private server, all you have to do is drop your mods into the labeled folder and you're done. There may be some mods that need to be configured, but that'll be mod-specific; they'll state that on their main page.
  8. Water should not get that dark that fast. Maybe Vintage Story has a different type of water than we do, but to lose over 1/2 the light at only 6 meters deep? In 1.180 I tried to make an underwater base. The roof was level with the lake, with a 3 block tall greenhouse, and a 14 block tall house underneath that, all made with glass walls. The house was pitch dark, you couldn't see anything outside it, and cave music would play every time you entered it. I abandoned the house a in-game week after building it Great concept, but the game just isn't ready for that kind of life yet.
  9. I can second this. Playing at a 30 day month just gives you more time to goof off But I'll agree with everyone else here; Play for awhile with the default settings until you get a feel for things, and then branch off from there. You can always change things with a command later, but do note that changing dates will affect what season you are in
  10. I would love to have a way to tell wind speed in-game that doesn't require a mod of sorts; having a wind chime that reacts to various speeds would be great Currently, we have two options for judging wind speed; - How still are the plants and leaves outside? - Are my wind-powered mechanisms operating? And neither method is really efficient at knowing just how much wind is around. Leaves usually aren't noticeable unless you have the real high winds, and your helve stuff's speed is affected by more than just wind; How many things are you powering? What is your torque ratio? Wind mill rotor power output?
  11. Dave Thunderlord sucked him away into the Rust World
  12. 4 1/2 years of playing this game and not once did I think of doing that Usually I make a 5x5 that’s 7 deep, and with my current home being under the surface of a forest, making a wall of glass shared with my charcoal pit would make for a great aesthetic
  13. Chiseling glass is always a challenge, that window looks great I also like what you did with the Support Beams, it really adds to the corners
  14. you and me both If we can mix 3 types of food in the crock then we should be able to mix at least 3 types of food in the pie. Shepherds pie my beloved. The only "argument" I can see against it is that you could make a pie that has all your nutrients in one pie (Grain, Protein, Vegetable, Fruit), making it the "Ultimate Meal™", but in the overall view of things, I don't see the issue with that.
  15. I'm the same way. I always remove them myself, but IDK if it affects anything besides freeing up block space
  16. As a dare I made a meat and Death Cap stew, and successfully (but painfully) ate a bowl without dying. Great fun I've played rouge-like games that had this feature, and it was a lot of fun But like the others here have said, I also don't see it fitting the vibe of vanilla Vintage Story But it would be a fun mod nonetheless
  17. Neither are the beautifully loud cicadas. I love to have ambient bird sounds
  18. Chiseled decorations take up more space than you think
  19. That’s a feature I’d like to have as well. I’m using trunks moreso than chests, and having a label built onto it means I can compact more items in a smaller space; placing a sign on a chest takes up a whole cube, whereas a label is located within the chest’s space
  20. If you let your chickens eat their eggs, then you’ll never harvest a single egg again. They’ll be gone before you woke up.
  21. Glow Worms are my #1 favorite find whilst caving I just wish you could collect and relocate them
  22. Chickens will eat anything. They’ll eat their eggs, they’ll eat your fingers, they’ll even eat theirselves if they knew how they tasted. Source: I used to raise them.
  23. This is how I did it back in January when that feature was added. I sat the pot on the ground, used a bucket on the pot, and used the bucket on a barrel.
  24. I have the same issue with pie on long trips it just doesn’t last that long in my bags
  25. I always forget myself But, that's why 1.20 added the ability to take food from a crock with a bowl in your inventory; all the story locations are like this
