  1. I tend to light fire to much of the world... so I guess I'm practicing a nature religion and put fire elementals on a pedestal. In the spirit of your question, I should start building some form of alters to fire. Hmmm, could be fun.
  2. Some of the things I do... Bears: I am not some elite gamer, I just learn how to avoid death to bears. Stay out of the forests... burn large sections of forest to clear the way if you have to. Bear pits are your friend... easy to make and they work on wolves too. Climbing: Agreed, but for now I use the StepUp mod as a stop gap. Not really what you're after but it helps. Starting copper: Spawns can suck... I get it... to help in bad situations, use the mod to zoom your view to help spy surface copper. Burn the plains to clear lines of sight to zoom in on copper from a tall vantage point. If all else fails, restart. I do if it is really that bad. Bowtorn and Shivers: In caves I bring a stack of dirt and quickly build 2 stack high walls if there are bowtorn around. Helps, but yes.. they are a pain... you can run away from the cave 30 blocks or so and return after they de-spawn... cheesy... I don't do this too often but I do have my moods. ha! May your crocks always be full
  3. I have this problem too... I restart, wander around for a few days to see if there is something that "feels right" and if not, then restart again. I'm not one to start with a scenario in mind like building a dwarven mountain home or something like that. A scenario would make this easier... I need to find a place that looks unique, feels right and usually has access to water for a boat/raft. All that said... when I have settled, explored the area and things have started to feel stale, I restart again...
  4. My keyboard dexterity is awful... if I get a jump scare (which happens a lot) then I'm done for
  5. I almost love starting a new world and wandering thru it for a month more than settling in one world and living in it. I restart a lot just to see something new and explore it. Wonderful aspect of the game.
  6. Very much this... essentially I'm building my own floor and boxing myself in... (building a room) It also helps deal with bowtorn that might be around. Again, I do this when I'm not wearing armor, which is much of the early game for me. On a similar note... I wall off sections of caves that I've explored so I'm not visited by spawns from the abyss, while exploring other branches of the cave.
  7. Bear pits are your friend.
  8. I've had "some" success early game by poling up with dirt from a good distance away and building a shelf over to arms reach of the nest. The locusts can climb so you may need to back fill behind you to keep them away. Once close, use your pick to break the nest... they will fall out to the ground while you stay perched near the ceiling on your scaffold. Pretty silly but it works for those of us who run around without armor for a lot of the game. Enjoy
  9. Very much the same here... early game I'm loaded with spears or have a bunch at the ready around my base for the morning bowtorns.
  10. They do linger longer than your standard drifter, but wander off eventually unless they are in a pit.
  11. I was frustrated when bowtorn were introduced too... Died a lot until I figured out how to deal with them. You get plenty of warning when they wind up... jump behind something or plop down a 2 stack high dirt pile... I always carry a stack of dirt in case I fall into a deep hole while running around... setup a few obstacles around you base for defense. You can then either pick them off at a distance or rush them between shots. My keyboard dexterity is not great and this method works for me. From a survival stand point, running around at night early game (depending on biome) is a good way to die... lol I hope you find a way back to the game, it's such a gem.
  12. I've only ever done this on a small scale in ponds, but can't you basically build a solid block of dirt (however big) and dig out the middle from top to bottom, destroying source blocks to build a dam? I know that sounds like a lot of work, but if you recon the cave and it's worth exploiting, then this would be a "realistic" way to make this happen...
  13. That's the spirit! My world is always on fire... clear those lines of sight... harvest the animals that couldn't get out of the way... epic
  14. I second this! I've done very long "roads" thru mountains, across plains, lakes, etc. Takes a loooong time to do but I play this game to relax. When all is said and done, the speed enhancement is well worth it.
  15. Sounds like some dates I've had...
  16. I have not noticed anything too crazy in my 1.21 worlds... though they are crawling out of caves quite a bit...
  17. I always start my world with the option to pick these types of things up without glue... more fun for me that way... love that the game allows this type of flexibility. There might be a command to modify your world to allow this...
  18. Thank... you. You shouldn't have. No, really... Hate to say it, but I already cheat to get around the Eidolon. It's just too frustrating for me.
  19. I would think that using the full color map would help you find things easier... I don't use it for that reason.
  20. I'm an older (1st gen) gamer who was around before the days of Steam... yes when dinosaurs roamed... You are spot on here ==> I fall into this trap too, but don't hesitate to buy from and support indie developers who are bold enough to break the "ball and chain" of the marriage we have with Steam. I wish more would do so! Enjoy
  21. Pro Tip: Trenches (animal pits) are your friend 3 deep 2 wide, as long as you want for wolves... have them chase you... jump over it... meat, hide and bones for free... Great for hunting too... Have fun!
  22. I always play as Commoner... I've never understood the fixation on class in games like this... it's like shields in a space game... everyone gets mad if you don't have them. VS has an excellent progression mechanic based on what you do/create and the time you spend doing that gets its reward in the end. It's simplicity without shoe-horning buffs and de-buffs that everyone argues about. As long as I can just be Common, I'll be happy.
  23. To give a different perspective, I enjoy a more hardcore VS experience and don't like the full color map because it's kind of a cheat... without it, I am forced to visually search for clay, peat, etc. I hope you get back into VS and can enjoy the game again... it's great however you like playing it.
  24. It looks like 1.21.0 pre-3 has this issue... I reverted back to 1.21.0 pre-2 and it went away... I have noticed this is listed as a bug on Discord with a note it will be fixed in the next update.
  25. True, though I like to catch what falls into the trench around my compound...
