To everyone: Just to be clear, I know the difference between lore and story. What I was basically saying is that people seem to be arbitrarily applying their own personal definition as to what is or is not RPG and unless the devs chime in we really do not know. My personal bet is heavy on story, my reason for that is actually not related to my personal definition of the term RPG its just a bet, the reasoning itself I would prefer to not get into

I do not know how we get 'rich with lore' but not 'story based' from the the phrase 'RPG' but here is my take. -RPG for the old school D&D players = character stats, turn based combat, skill progression -RPG for the new school so called AAA space that has high jacked the term = story based. -RPG 'lore based'? 'story based? well it could mean this, or that, or what I think it should be etc etc. That said for reasons I do not want to enumerate in detail I think specifically for this game and this specific team, I think the new mode is going to be more story based than the existing modes. If I was a betting man that is what I would bet on, however in concrete terms none of us really know.

I am more interested in game mechanics. Crafting, building etc. As such 'a fantasy setting RPG style that has a different aesthetic' is too vague for me, I need more information. With that said, if they had said they are making a game that is steampunk tech in space I would be very curious. But 'fantasy setting RPG style' likely means, story based which I am not interested in. I will have to wait and see but at this time I am in NFG mode.

like I said. Pretty much word for word what Keen said about Medieval Engineers. Now to be fair the project that got hurt was not Space Engineers it was Medieval Engineers. Regardless of all of that, as long as I can download various major stable releases of the game up to this point then I am fine and not concerned. I am also however just not interested in this other project. I have not read anything specific that I find personally compelling for me. Another example is 7 Days to Die. I love that game, I played it for about 1500hrs but once they started making major changes by adding Perk system and the like then I really really really no longer enjoyed the game, but as long as I can still download the older versions I am all good. I can not control what happens in the future, sometimes things go well, sometimes they don't but I sure do like being able to download previous versions

everyone keeps refering to this 'great plan' I would like to know more details. All I know thus far is 1. more RPG focused 2. more high fantasy focused. 3. aesthetic change. Speaking personally I have zero interest in any of those. I am not complaining I am just saying I plan to stick to 'classic' VS, thanks.

Well speaking personally, I am not interested in this other project given what few things we know about it. From my view as long as I have access to the stable version of today and as long as the Dev community keep having all previous mod versions available then I am all good. Big changes always comes with risk. Keen did EXACTLY the same thing with Medieval Engineers. Multiple great streaming shows have been completely changed due to a writers change. Maybe if I knew more details about this other game I would be interested but for me the word 'RPG' in the modern context almost always mean 'story focused' which I could not possibly be less interested in.

The monsters start to spawn in your area around 18:00. They start to walk away from your base around 07:00 You can get them to despawn/walk away faster by running out of your base past about 32 chunks before 7am but I doubt one could do that around 1am. The upgraded beds have a long time set on them SPECIFICALLY for this reason. I have heard these points mentioned in multiple online videos and I have never experience it being otherwise in about 1500 hours of my game play in multiple files and multiplayer -

the monster spawns that throw rocks and spears at you for the evening last longer than 7 hours. They do not leave within 7 hours, not even remotely. In fact, that reality is WHY the other upgraded bed last longer for sleep -

7 hours does not get you thru the night. I am sorry but your wrong. Monsters spawns are active for more than 7 hours even in spring time. -

Regarding Sleeping: 1. multiplayer 2. early game where you can not sleep thru the night long enough so yes you have to sit and wait looking at a wall. Regarding violence: no combat...peroid. Stationeers example: high adrenaline action of fast paced is most of the game. However there is zero violence, combat or whatever term is most palatable to describe what I think we both know I mean. How do they do that? well...they can. -
I think the question of 'is steel hard' and 'is it worth it' are two different questions. Is it worth it? likely not Is it hard? I am not even going to entertain that quesiton

Medieval Engineers. Same points in both directions where made then, it did not do well. I am not a fan of this idea but I am also not a business manager at the company, I have zero idea what the accounting is etc. I have no idea if they can do it or not, I am just not interested in this new project idea...full stop.

Vintage Story Is a Challenge-Centered Game.

I still do Exploration mode. Here is my summary of Standard mode: Early Game: get as much done during the day as you can, sit and stair at a wall for the night and wait for the clock to be done. Mid/Late Game: monsters just get in the way, mess up your train of thought and are just in general a nuisance. So for my single player experience I just leave hostile off and I have no plan of ever changing that. However, I would like to see them make a change where if I attack a monster, they will then attack me in mass. Also, I refuse to accept not being able to build someplace I find cool simply because of Temporal Stability. Nope, not having any of that. -

As anyone who has played Stationeers or even KSP would know, a 'challenge' does NOT have to mean monsters or violence. A challenge can be heart pumping while also NOT be centered on combat at the same time. In Stationeers for example you are on the clock and its very easy to not get things done in time before you starve to death. As a long term gamer I am exhausted with challenges related to physical violence, it just gets old and it diverts attention away from more novel ideas around challenges. -
true, however, management has to spend time managing both projects at a high level which takes away time and focus on the main title. Its not dramatic to be fair but it does have an impact. I personally could not remotely care less about the adventure mode. I just want to make more stuff, more recipes, and a massive skill system based completely on 'learn by doing' concept without ANY resemblance of a 'perk system' but its not my game so fair enough

I have to admit I am totally...NOT...a fan of this idea but it is what it is.

I have 1.21 on a separate file set up with mods and the following major mods are not working Expanded Foods (or its dependencies) Tailor's Delight Xskills I have zero idea if any of those mods are currently being worked on for the update
-
one thing they could do that would be super easy is to link the most active branch on GitHub and people could directly look at the date last modified for their code. (we are talking the modders here). I did exactly that but I doubt I was on the most active branch because the dates I saw where from several years ago despite the mod page saying more like Feb this year.
-
The 'amount of content to be added' is a known factor. I too would like to know roughly how long it might take given we know the amount of content. Are we talking weeks or months? Major mods like Expanded Foods, Tailoring Delight, Xskills appear to not be working. I would love to get an indicator as to if those mod creators are actively working on those mods or not at the moment.
