  1. I personally hav the least geming problems using the latest 570 drivers, but it's a tradeoff for problems in general desktop usage. Unless you're using linux though, I wouldn't recomend switching between drivers per use case.
  2. All my performance woes thus far have always been due to nvidia's awful firmware. I believe I have your same model of gpu. which drivers are you using? I hate that so many computers these days come with nvidia hardware packed in. Never tried amd or intel gpus yet, but they can't possibly be any worse, right?
  3. Do you live very far north, or very far south? If so, what is your current month?
  4. More than likely you simply don't have enough power. Remove the large gear and try again. I personally like to prototype my machines in creative mode.
  5. That appears to be a mod. Does the mod db page have any info?
  6. Strange, there's been cases when the ui freezes and the green arrow doesn't progress, but the food still cooks. Are you sure the meal doesn't cook all the way through, and that it isn't just the ui arrow that freezes?
  7. Makes sense. You can interbreed dogs because they're all technically the same species. Inter-species hybrids like a mule are rare, and always born infertile.
  8. The number on the bottom represents the fuel temp. The number in the arrow represents the food's temp. In the image you posted, it looks like it's cooking just fine. You don't even need the fuel's temp to remain above cooking temp the whole time, because the food temp will only begin to drop once there is a significant enough difference between fuel and food temp, although it only rises when the fuel temp is higher. I'm guessing that 200 represents a sort of max food temp. If I recall correctly, the cooking temp of red meat is 150. This means you get a maximum of 50 degree buffer for cooking red meat. edit: this sort of reflects real-life cooking mechanics. Your stove fire may be really hot, well above 250 degrees. but because the boiling point of water is 100 degrees, most food cannot physically get hotter than 100, until after all the water has evaporated.
  9. One thing I like about this community vs the other block game, is that I don't detect any vanilla purism attitudes. If mods help to create the experience you're looking for, nobody is going to make fun of you for using them. that being said, something as novel as lycanthropy would need to be a significant overhaul of the gameplay experience before I'd personally consider installing it. That is to say, I wouldn't expect it to be a complement to the main game, but instead an alternative to the main game. The concept is novel enough that if it doesn't significantly alter the gameplay experience, I wouldn't install it. if I were you, I would start off with a complementary sort of mod first, if you have no experience modding.
  10. like, in game?
  11. Though I cannot speak with any authority, I wonder if there are some technical constraints on this. I've noticed that the more zoomed out the map is, the longer it takes for the map to load. I'm betting the effect is exponential, and that simply allowing the map to zoom out more would lead to problematic loading times. The solution therefore would be much more difficult to implement than simply changing a setting. They might have to implement some sort of map LOD system for very large ranges, similar to image compression. I couldn't even begin to imagine how that might be implemented though, cuz I don't have a phd in linear systems.
  12. Your standard of "bare-minimum" might be different than mine...
  13. Most linux issues I've personally experienced have to do with nvidia drivers, rather than the distro. I'm guessing that like me, your graphics card firmware will give you more woe than your distro will. I've heard amd firmware is better. I sure hope that remains the case by the time I build my next desktop.
  14. I think sticks are fine as they are. Shears can get you all the sticks you need. maybe what needs to happen though, is the guide should be clearer about how players should use shears to collect sticks.
  15. The randomly generated rift levels and durations certainly make for an interesting experience. after sleeping through a "high" activity night, you see the rift level is now calm, so you go out to do some chores. Pretty soon, you wonder where all these bowtorns came from. Is there a cave opening nearby? Nope. Rift level just turned apocalyptic.
  16. when someone makes an argument against the devs, and somebody else points out the flaws in that argument, that isn't defending the devs or fanboying. we all, myself included, need to be better than this. we've all gotten in the habit of assuming one of three things about people who disaggee with us: They are ignorant, they are a hypocrite, or they are sub-human. All this because we apparently cannot bear the painful reality that an intelligent, thinking human being wouldn't come to all the same conclusions that we do. As if we've never been on the fence about thing or have ever changed our mind on something. Please don't let this community turn into reddit.
  17. Please no. That is an extremely annoying aspect about the other block game. It makes making quick little changes underwater so much more annoying than it should be for such little things. How about instead, doing anything that would cause hunger to deplete faster while underwater, will also cause oxygen to deplete quicker.
  18. Maybe not what they're currently working on, but the roadmap shows what they plan on adding.
  19. This particular piece of ruins clutter comes to mind
  20. If an additional tier of armor and weapons get added, there should also be added something to justify the upgrade. I haven't fought any of the bosses yet (please no spoilers), but I've heard that steel weapons and armor are already way more than enough to defeat the two bosses in the game thus far. A third, much harder boss could be added, but I don't think it's VSs style to make bosses the yardstick of progress. maybe the question could be settled the same way Terraria does. In Terraria, at about halfway through the game, the player must do something that transforms the world into hard mode. It unlocks many new tool and weapon tiers, whilst also making the game harder by introducing new enemies\biomes. if a third boss gets added, perhaps defeating it triggers a terraria-style hard mode, where steel is no longer good enough, and higher tiers of materials get unlocked.
  21. For me, progression is the main feature of survival-crafting games. The longer I am engaged in furthering progression, the more worth I'm getting out of the game. My favorite survival-crafting games implement progression in a way that increases the number of opportunities available to the player, rather than just some number going up. from a game theory perspective, that's the only way I know how to judge the quality of progression. The amount of time it takes really doesn't matter to me, so long as it's implemented well. i've said it before, and I'll say it again. The other block game is a lousy survival crafting game. It's entire progression loop can be completed by an experienced player in a single play session, and each step in the progression barely adds any more opportunities to the player besides the ability to work towards the next tier up. Survival mode is just a formality at this point. Sure, Microsoft is constantly adding new crap to survival mode, but they're always shallow novelties that are easy to advertise but don't add any depth to the experience. The real fun comes from building and redstone and of course, modding. For years, I've been chasing after the ideal survival experience through modpacks, but I would always lose interest in them after getting too annoyed with the mounting technical and performatce issues. seeing as I have no patience for building and redstone, nor do I derive pleasure therefrom, VS was a godsend when I at last discovered it.
  22. I keep seeing this idea being referenced across the forum. Is this a hard requirement written in stone? We can't ever see anything that wasn't pre-columbian in origin? If Tyron said so, how long ago did he say that?
  23. That might be a hard ask. Mutiplayer servers exist of course, but I doubt there are any servers out there that exist to teach new players tye game. why don't you play it and discover it for yourself? Learning it for the first time is half the fun of buying a new game. If it were me, I wouldn't want to play with anyone more or less experienced than I am, so that we both discover together. The in-game guides are sufficiently comprehensive for any new player, even though people on youtube keep ignoring it for some reason.
  24. Probably lighting errors. Try placing a torch on one the removing it, to see if they persist. turns out calculating lighting is reall, really difficult. It took the other block game forever to get it right, and that's without dynamic shadows and colored light.
